June is Fathers Day - but this whole month feels like Groundhog Day!

Buy your tickets at https://www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/nwrfdad

Every day, after day, after day...
We are...still feeding tiny babies... still caring for juveniles... and still releasing overwintered animals
This is SO unusual, because normally these processes are not happening simultaneously...therefore GROUNDHOG DAY!

This Spring was too cold to release, and too cold for new babies to thrive, or even to survive without parents.
When wild parents aren't available to raise their young, Rehabbers step in and YOUR donation dollars make all the difference. We can't emphasis enough how incredibly important YOU are.

This year in particular we are still buying life saving formulas and specialized foods, and building release boxes for every stage of these fragile lives. Every year this is the busiest season but this year we are absolutely overwhelmed by the numbers of wild orphans in desperate need of care.

The number of animals have increased... The costs have skyrocketed... And the number of caring volunteers has decreased.

Thank YOU for your support – it truly means the world to us - and to them!
More than ever before we absolutely can't do this without YOU!

Almost everyone has heard this one.

"Raccoons wash their food before they eat it."

They don't. 🦝

What looks like washing is actually touching.

A raccoon's front paws are packed with nerve endings and are among the most sensitive in the mammal world.

When they dip food into water, they're gathering information.

Texture.

Shape.

Movement.

Even tiny details hidden from sight.

🌿 In the wild, raccoons often hunt along streams, ponds, and wet shorelines where they search for crayfish, frogs, insects, and other prey.

Water helps stimulate the nerves in their paws, making objects easier to identify.

They're not cleaning dinner.

They're reading it.

The raccoon at the creek isn't washing food like a tiny chef.

He's using one of the most sensitive touch systems in North American wildlife.
