History, community, and connection — all in one walk!

Today we joined a Doors Open Winnipeg walking tour through the Luxton neighbourhood, led by the amazing Kenneth Ingram from the Seven Oaks Historical Society. We explored how the 1950 Red River flood shaped this historic community — including stories of resilience, photos of Luxton Avenue under water, and the powerful ways community came together.

This one was especially meaningful for me. My grandparents were living in their Luxton home during the flood and were evacuated along with their neighbours. My dad was born just 5 years later, and he grew up on those very same streets.

Walking through the neighbourhood today, hearing those stories, and imagining what that time must have been like for them — it all just felt really close to home 🏡
