Congratulations to WEtech Alliance on being selected to lead the Windsor-Essex Regional Technology Development Site through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network.

I was honoured to join the WEtech team, local innovators and community leaders for yesterday's announcement.

Innovation is in the DNA of Windsor-Essex. Our region has always been built by people who solve problems, embrace new ideas and turn innovation into opportunity.

This investment will help local startups and small and medium-sized businesses develop, test and commercialize the next generation of automotive and mobility technologies—creating jobs, attracting investment and strengthening our economy.

Congratulations to Yvonne Pilon, her team at WEtech Alliance, , and everyone who helped make this possible. The future continues to be built right here in Windsor-Essex.

Today, Const. Marc Pinizzotto was laid to rest.

This husband, this father, this brother, and friend to many gave his life in the line of duty to serve and protect his fellow citizens.

We will not forget him. Justice must be done for him and his loved ones.

Today, we celebrate St. Jean Baptiste Day and honour the rich history, culture, and enduring contributions of French Canadians.
In Windsor–Essex, Francophone roots run deep. Long before Confederation, French settlers helped establish some of the region's earliest communities along the Detroit River. Their language, traditions, faith, and entrepreneurial spirit helped shape the character of our region and continue to enrich our communities today.
Francophone families, businesses, educators, artists, and community leaders continue to make Windsor–Essex and Canada stronger.

I wish everyone celebrating a joyful and meaningful St. Jean Baptiste Day.

Mark Carney paid tribute to Keir Starmer today.

Which is a bit like congratulating the captain of the Titanic for his commitment to navigation.

Starmer's own party looked at rising frustration, economic stagnation, and collapsing public confidence and decided it was time for a new captain. He agreed and stepped down.

In Britain, they changed the captain, meanwhile in Canada, we're still being told the iceberg is a nation-building opportunity.

Canada is mourning once again.

In Montreal, a police officer was killed, another officer was injured, and a civilian lost their life in a tragic incident that remains under investigation. Earlier today, two RCMP officers were also shot in Saskatchewan and, thankfully, are expected to recover.
In less than two months, four police officers have lost their lives while serving our communities.

As a retired police officer, I know that behind every badge is a family. Tonight, the officers' loved ones are grieving, colleagues are mourning, and communities are rattled and searching for answers.

The investigations must be allowed to run their course. However we cannot ignore a concern shared by many Canadians: violence is becoming more common, frontline officers are facing increasing dangers, and too often we find ourselves offering condolences after tragedy instead of asking what more can be done to prevent the next one.

We owe those who protect our communities more than our respect and gratitude. We owe them the support, resources, legislative tools, and conditions necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively.

Today, we mourn. We honour. We remember.

Tomorrow, we must have the courage to confront the difficult questions these tragedies demand of us.

May the fallen rest in peace, may the injured recover fully, and may the families affected by the tragic loss find strength in the difficult days ahead.
