Youth Diversion

Youth Diversion Strengthen youth. Strengthen their future. Incorporated in 1980, the Essex County Diversion Program Inc.

has successfully served thousands of young people across Windsor and Essex County through our effective community-based programs for youth. Our valuable working partnerships with a variety of agencies in our community, as well as community support and volunteer contribution have all led to the overall success and longevity of Youth Diversion. We are a not for profit agency governed by a voluntary

Board of Directors. The Essex County Diversion Program serves youth ages 12 – 17 throughout Windsor and Essex County with core funding from the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Ministry of Attorney General and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Youth Diversion is committed to supporting young people at risk of reaching their full potential. Our programs encourage youth to develop skills that promote a positive response to self, others and the community. We are focused on fostering values such as integrity, responsibility, commitment and caring for young people and their families in our community. We promote and encourage changed attitudes and behaviours by providing challenging, accommodating programs and services in a variety of inviting settings.

Great conversations happen when passionate people come together around a common goal.

Today, Youth Diversion joined community leaders and organizations from across Windsor-Essex to discuss the future of access to justice, collaboration, and community impact.

We are grateful for opportunities like this to learn from one another, share experiences from the front lines, and work together toward stronger supports for children, youth, families, and our community.

Thank you to the for hosting these important discussions and for supporting local organizations through their generosity and leadership.

A moment of poor judgment can quickly turn into criminal charges, restitution, damaged reputations, and long-term consequences — especially when group behaviour and peer pressure are involved.

At Youth Diversion, we believe accountability matters. But we also believe in helping young people understand the impact of their actions, repair harm where possible, and make better choices moving forward.

Prevention, intervention, education, and support matter.

We’re incredibly grateful to the May Court Club of Windsor for investing in children, youth, and families in our community.

Youth Diversion is proud to share that we have been awarded funding to support our RESET Family Toolkit Initiative—providing practical, take-home tools that help families build stronger communication, emotional regulation, and connection at home.

Because families don’t just need information… they need tools they can use in real life.

Thank you to the for believing in this work and helping us create lasting impact for the families we serve. 💜

Sometimes the impact of this work is best told by the people who’ve lived it.

This comment stopped us in our tracks.

Every young person deserves the chance to learn from mistakes, change their path, and move forward without being defined by one moment.

This is why Youth Diversion exists.
To hold youth accountable. To support families. To create second chances before a criminal record becomes a life sentence.

Thank you to our community for sharing stories like this and for believing in early intervention. 💙

We’re honoured to be featured in today’s paper as we launch an exciting new chapter for Youth Diversion. 📰✨

Thanks to the support of our community and partners, we’re expanding our work to better support children, youth, and families across Windsor-Essex through prevention, intervention, and meaningful family engagement.

This is more than a program expansion—it’s an investment in stronger families, healthier communities, and brighter futures for young people.

Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in this work. The best is yet to come. 💛

We’re incredibly proud to share this exciting next chapter for Youth Diversion.

Thanks to the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Youth Diversion is launching a new family-centred model that recognizes something we’ve known for years:

If we want to change the trajectory of a young person’s life, we cannot support youth in isolation—we must support the family, the environment, and the people surrounding them.

Through RESET, GROW, and our new Family Toolkit, we are building a model focused on early intervention, accountability, connection, and lasting change.

A heartfelt thank you to .jay.maru for helping us share this story, and to our staff, board, partners, families, and community supporters who have helped make this vision possible.

Youth may make up only 20% of our population… but they are 100% of our future.
