Over the last twenty four hours, I have run a full range of emotions. My volunteers, family and friends put in countless hours over the last three and a half months.
My campaign message was and is so much a part of who I am and what I believe in for the downtown, for the ward, and for the city. I am very proud of how close we came, and I congratulate Renaldo Agostino for his exciting campaign.
In the next few weeks, my current term as the Chair of the Downtown Windsor BIA will come to an end - a role which I volunteered my time for, because of my love of the core. Over the last four years, the changes we have seen in the downtown have been impressive - we have seen new developments happen, with projects like the old Loop complex and Ye Olde Steakhouse being converted to Rocket Mortgage, Invest Windsor Essex moving their office downtown, and 15 new retail shops and restaurants opening. During the pandemic, we advocated for small business, getting parklets built in record time, starting a petition for small business to receive the same treatment as big box stores, garnering thousands of signatures, and even starting an employment page, connecting downtown residents with downtown jobs.
This has not changed, nor has my resolve.
I plan to run for the BIA again, and, should I be successful, I will continue to work hard for the downtown, as I have for my entire adult life.
It was a great run, I’ll see you in four years.
