SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT – WINTER CONDITIONS

Environment Canada has issued a SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT for our area, including the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation community. Winter weather may bring heavy snow, reduced visibility, strong winds, icy roads, and potential power outages.
CNFD encourages all community members to take the following steps to stay safe:
❄️ Prepare for Possible Power (Hydro) Outages
• Keep flashlights and extra batteries readily available
• Charge phones, medical devices, and backup power banks
• Have extra blankets, warm clothing, food, and water on hand
• Check on elders, neighbours, and those who may need assistance
🔥 Safe Heating Practices
• Use approved heating devices only
• Never use BBQs, propane heaters, or generators indoors
• Ensure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are working
• Keep heaters at least 1 metre (3 feet) away from anything that can burn
🚗 Travel With Caution
• Avoid unnecessary travel during poor conditions
• Slow down and increase following distance
• Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle
