WPVFD looks after one another so that we can look after you!

Wednesday night our First Responder Program Leader took time during practice to refresh our skills on CPR and AED - Fire Practice is every week at 7pm on Wednesday’s rain, snow, wind or shine.

All aspects of the First Responder Program are enacted by the Ministry of Health with intent to support agencies like BCEHS who specialize in pre-hospital care and transport.

WPVFD at one time had its own field ambulance in the old shed where Truck 103 was stored. The ambulance was staffed by a few locals who were trained in Industrial First Aid. Our community has always burdgeoned with pride of our local responders. A few of those people are still amongst us, please thank them!

Willis Point VFD has been assisting Coastal Fire Center crews and DND on a brush fire located on the DND Property Heals Rifle Range in the function of Water Supply. There is ongoing sporadic road closures, as they work to extinguish the fire.

Willis Point VFD is beginning to bring resources home and there is no threat to life safety at this time.

Way to go Willis Point!

Wednesday night we were awarded with a personal thank you from the Muscular Dystrophy Chair who supports the Fire Fighter Boot Drive initiative on the Island, Kerry Zado. What a wonderful surprise to our community in appreciation of our collected donations for Muscular Dystrophy Canada in the 1000-3000$ range for 2018. Bill Wright made a spot on our wall for it to go and all of Willis Point should be proud of this accomplishment. If you feel like there is still a contribution you would like to make, please go to the MDC website and click on the tabs to gift a donation:

Last Wednesday night on May 29th, our crew participated in a mock scenario put together as a two vehicle MVI with multiple patients entrapped. Thank you to the actors who volunteered to come make the scenario more realistic.

If you drove by and saw the commotion last week, our crew was practicing for a full response and these kinds of realistic exercises are very important to prepare properly for call outs. We were able to:
-establish command
-use radio communications
-extend a hose line
-extricate patients using hydraulic tools
-use first responder techniques to care for the actors
-utilize the incident command system
-keep WP Road open for residents to enter/exit the area
-practice in a safe location and use Officers in a mentorship role

We practice every wednesday night and our volunteer firefighters are on duty every day of the year. If you see some of us at the lake or jogging the road....it is critical our members take time to recover from working full time, practicing late, supporting their homelife, attending extra weekends dedicated to community activity and ofcourse responding to callouts.

But do not worry...WPVFD wants you to know we are looking out!
