The City is proposing a new Amenity Cost Charges (ACC) Bylaw in response to recent provincial housing legislation. ACCs are a new development finance tool introduced by the Province that significantly change how local governments can fund community amenities, such as recreation centres, libraries, and cultural facilities. ACCs are intended to replace the City’s existing density bonus and community amenity contribution programs.

The proposed bylaw is scheduled for first, second, and third readings at the June 23 Council Meeting.

Before the bylaw is finalized, we’re inviting residents and interest holders to learn more and share their input. Feedback will be accepted until Wednesday, July 2, at 10 a.m.

Learn more and share your thoughts at LetsTalkCoquitlam.ca/ACC or email your questions or comments to [email protected].

Access to affordable housing is a growing priority, impacting many—from individuals seeking stable homes to working families managing rising rents.

With over 5,600 households on the social housing waitlist and many dedicating a large share of their income to housing, the need for action is clear.

Currently, non-market housing projects often face a rezoning process that can take 1 to 2 years before construction begins.

To address this, the City is proposing the Social Housing Initiative, designed to streamline approvals and accelerate the delivery of affordable homes.

Tune in tonight to learn more and ask questions about the proposal.
