📍Warning signs of a rental scam
September is by the corner and many international students are on the hunt for a place to rent.
Please do not fall for rental scams in Canada.
If it is too good to be true, especially when you have not physically inspected the place and can't confirm if you are communicating with the rightful owner, then you should not pay any deposit.
I always advise my clients to physically view a place before making a commitment or send someone to view on their behalf.
You've spent a lot of money on this immigration journey to lose your hard earned money to scammers.
Get it into your head, scammers are REAL in Canada.
I almost fell victim to a rental scam when I first arrived but I quickly spotted it in time.
Cheaper does not always mean real. Have a realistic budget for your rent. Many people that have approached me in my DM do not have a realistic budget.
The truth is that rent is expensive in BC, you have to deal with that as a new immigrant.
If the rental you find on any website has some or all of the signs in the slide 👆, please do not make any payment. Do not let your desperation to settle down quickly or get a place before you arrive make you lose money.
Airbnb is an option to ensure you can physically inspect the rental.
