Today is World Hunger Day - a reminder that food insecurity is not simply about food, but about affordability, stability, and access.

Approximately 1 in 5 Albertans are experiencing food insecurity, with rising housing costs, inflation, and financial pressures forcing more individuals and families to make impossible choices.

At the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton, we see firsthand how deeply these challenges impact our community during the holiday season. Behind every hamper application is a person, family, or senior navigating circumstances that are often far more complex than many realize.

While World Hunger Day highlights a global issue, it also reminds us of the importance of community here at home - neighbours helping neighbours, organizations coming together, and people choosing compassion and generosity even during difficult times.

Because everyone deserves dignity, connection, and the comfort of a nutritious meal.

Happy Mother’s Day 💚💛

We know that the role of “mother” can be filled by many people in our lives - not always by blood, but by those who show up with love, care, guidance, and support.

We also recognize that this day can look and feel different for everyone.

However today looks for you, we hope you can take a moment to acknowledge the person who has helped make your life a little easier, a little brighter, or a little safer along the way.

Thinking of all those celebrating, remembering, grieving, nurturing, and loving today.

Did you know we’ve been a proud charity partner of Taste of Edmonton for nearly a decade?

It’s one of Edmonton’s best summer festivals - bringing together incredible local restaurants, food trucks, musicians, artists, and community.

A couple of important updates as we gear up for this year’s festival:
• Volunteer shifts are now open! Click the link in our bio to sign up today.
• Discounted tasting tickets are now available online at TasteOfEdm.ca or at customer service desks at one of the North Central Co-op locations - another of our incredible community partners.

On this , we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our longtime friends at the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and the Edmonton Oilers 💙🧡

From partnering with us through the 50/50s, to staff and alumni rolling up their sleeves to help pack festive food hampers - and so much more - they continue to step up year after year to help Feed Oil Country.

We are incredibly grateful for their unwavering commitment to our community and for helping make the holidays brighter for so many friends and neighbours in need.

We’re excited to launch a delicious new fundraiser with 🥧💚

Whether you’re craving a savoury meat pie or a sweet fruit pie, there’s something for everyone - and the best part? They come frozen, so you can stock your freezer with easy, ready-made meals and desserts.

With Father’s Day happening shortly after you pick up your pies… we won’t tell if you take all the credit 😉

Ordering is easy:
1️⃣ Complete the Google Form (link in bio) by May 18
2️⃣ Receive your invoice and submit payment
3️⃣ Pick up your pies at Fifendekel (12028-149 Street) on June 4 between 9am and 3pm

Every order helps make a difference. Because of you, a family, individual, or senior in need will enjoy a nutritious, festive meal this holiday season.

As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, we want to once again say thank you to the incredible volunteers who make our work possible year-round. 💚

From supporting our festival partnerships, to packing food hampers, to lending a hand behind the scenes in our office - and everything in between - your time, energy, and commitment make a meaningful difference.

This work simply wouldn’t be possible without our community of dedicated volunteers.

We are so grateful for each and every one of you.

So grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who show up year after year to support our partnership with 💚

From greeting guests to helping with directions around the festival grounds to making sure folks are safe, your time, energy, and enthusiasm make this event such a success - and help us continue our work in the community. We truly couldn’t do this without you.

Thank you for being part of something so meaningful.

Today, we honour and say goodbye to one of our most dedicated volunteers, James (Jim) Danielson.

Jim began volunteering with the Christmas Bureau in 1986 and quickly became a familiar and trusted presence - especially on hamper delivery day. His commitment extended far beyond the holiday season, generously giving his time at events throughout the year. Most recently, he even volunteered at Taste of Edmonton last summer at the remarkable age of 84.

In 2022, Jim was honoured with the Kevin Lowe Award in recognition of his extraordinary dedication and impact.

We are deeply grateful to his family for requesting donations to the Christmas Bureau in lieu of flowers at his celebration of life today. Even in his passing, Jim continues to make a difference in the lives of others.

Jim, thank you for 40 years of kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping make the holidays happen for our friends and neighbours in need.

Rest in peace. 💚
