Around 1910

A few days ago, we posted a photo of the Timber Products Sawmill located on LeCaw's "Island" around 1930. Today's photo is a
rare picture circa 1910 showing the employees (unnamed) of the Timber Products Sawmill with stop logs used for the new Trent Canal system.

In the distance, on the right, is Bunker Hill which has changed a great deal in appearance over the years. In 1790, James Smith, an early United
Empire Loyalist from New York State, built the first log house on the east side of the Trent River at the base of Bunker Hill.
During the following years, as more Loyalist settlers arrived, the hill was named "Bunker Hill" after the "Battle of Bunker Hill", the first major battle in the American Revolutionary War.

June 1988

In June 1988, the Club 105 Seniors challenged CJTN to a baseball game. Stars were non-existant, the right fielder used a bushel basket,
and at times a grapefruit was substituted for the baseball. This photo shows Jack Graham of Club 105 stealing a base (literally!).
A good time was had by all and funds were raised for minor ball in Trenton.
The score? Let's call it a tie.

Around 1930
This is an aerial photo showing the Timber Products Sawmill. Located on Lecaw's "Island" south of #1 dam.
In the 1940's, the mill was bought by Herb Ditchburn who set up the Aero-Marine Crafts Ltd. and built six high speed rescue boats for the Royal Air Force. Later, the building was used to store apples until it burned in the early 1950's.
Some of the floor of the Timber Products mill can still be seen at the beginning of the Jack Lange Memorial Walkway which circles the "island".

June 1991

In June 1991, a CF-101 Voodoo jet being moved from Mountain View to CFB Trenton plunged nose first into the Bay of Quinte at Bayside. Although no damage was reported to the Chinook helicopter transporting the shell of the jet to be mounted on a pedestal, the older aircraft broke into several pieces. The fuselage was in about 7' of water.
Here are some photos of the rescue operation.
