To support: www.villageoflovecanada.org/donate An innovative Kenya- Canada partnership supports AIDS-orphaned children where they belong- in loving families! Love, learning and livelihood development breaks the poverty cycle. As part of the CAP Network, Village of Love Canada partners with compassionate Kenyan families who care for orphaned children in the slum community of Kibera. Desperately po
or, they nevertheless share their meagre means and their love with children orphaned by HIV&AIDS. Their love makes our dollars go far! We do not need to build orphanages or pay people to love children: the infrastructure for love and care is already in place! The family infrastructure allows us to provide small business micro-loans and skills training so that guardians may become self sufficient and provide food for the children every day! Our dollars provide education for the children, that is a door out of poverty. UN observers have said that the best place for orphaned children to be raised is within families. The problem has been how to fund individual families without there being abuse. Village of Love solves this in a novel and creative way. Comprised of 60 families, embracing over 300 children, Kijiji Cha Upendo, Swahili for "Village of Love," is registered with the Kenyan government, as a community-based organisation, #11849, so that the whole programme is government regulated. Volunteer social workers monitor the care of the children and the administration of funds, and provide training and mentoring for the guardians in the difficult task of raising traumatised children. Our dream is to GROW the project to include all the compassionate families caring for orphans in Kibera. We dream of every child receiving the love, education, nutritious food, safety and security that is a child's right. We dream of each child realising their own worth, developing their abilities to the fullest to become self sustaining, responsible adults, able to form their own loving families and make a positive contribution to Kenyan society. Love IS growing in Kibera!
