CCAC ANNOUNCES BURSARY NAMED IN HONOUR OF INGRID VERONICA KING
The Council of Caribbean Associations-Canada (CCAC) has announced the creation of a new bursary to be awarded in honour of Ingrid Veronica King, who served as the organization's longest-serving secretary.
This bursary will support students applying for CCAC funding in the future, and it recognizes Ingrid’s significant contributions to the organization. She has served as a representative of the Alliance of Guyanese Canadian Organizations since the organization joined the CCAC in 2009. Ingrid has worked tirelessly to manage the CCAC's administrative functions and to lead various committees over the years.
In addition to her work as secretary with the CCAC, Ingrid has been an integral part of the organization’s bursary and scholarship initiatives. She has played a central role in raising funds for the program, coordinating the annual selection of judges for numerous bursary applications, and overseeing the communication with applicants, sponsors, and educational institutions. Ingrid has also directed the presentation ceremonies for award recipients.
A key fundraiser for the bursary program has been the annual CCAC walk-a-thon, and Ingrid has consistently led the way in raising sponsorships to support this cause. Each CCAC bursary is worth up to $3,000.00, paid to the institution that the successful applicants attend. The number of bursaries varies depending on the funds available in the fund. Additionally, the CCAC provides two scholarships, valued at up to $24,000.00, that are funded by Seneca Polytechnic and George Brown College.
The decision to name a bursary in her honour was made unanimously by the Council and the Board of Directors, recognizing Ingrid’s dedication and leadership over the years. The newly named Ingrid Veronica King Bursary will ensure that her legacy continues to support future generations of Caribbean-Canadian students.
“Ingrid’s service to the CCAC exemplifies the highest standards of leadership, dedication, and institutional stewardship. For more than a decade, she has been a central pillar of this organization, ensuring its continuity, effectiveness, and integrity. This bursary is not only a recognition of her extraordinary contributions, but a permanent affirmation of the profound and lasting impact she has made on the CCAC and the communities we serve,” said Tornelle Griffith, President of the CCAC.
The CCAC has been providing this support to students of Caribbean descent resident in Ontario and attending colleges, trade schools, and universities in Ontario.
The CCAC currently has three other bursaries established in recognition of the dedication and contributions of distinguished individuals and businesses:
Gideon Exeter Bursary,
Lionel Bedesse Bursary, and
Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens Bursary
