Coexisting with Coyotes in our Community
Coyotes are highly curious, intelligent, and adaptable animals, but their presence in our community may not always be a welcomed sight.
While steps can be taken if a coyote becomes aggressive towards livestock, pets, or humans, their presence is a fact of life in rural Alberta.
Here are some everyday tips to help us coexist with coyotes in our community, and visit www.alberta.ca/coyotes for more information.

On May 28th, the County received notification that the manufacturer of 2% liquid strychnine has delayed production and shipment by two to three weeks. As such, strychnine will not be available for purchase or use until mid-late June.

In the meantime, producers wishing to access strychnine must:
1. Complete the online strychnine stewardship training through the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities: https://loom.ly/sR8BJbU
2. Email their certificate to [email protected] or drop it off at the County office to be added to the wait list.

What producers should expect when strychnine arrives:
1. Producers on the wait list will be contacted to confirm how much product they need, and be provided with a pickup/purchase date.
2. Supplies will be limited, so producers will only be able to purchase up to 6 bottles for the first shipment.
3. Producers who can provide proof of a severe gopher infestation may be eligible to purchase more than 6 bottles, depending on available quantities.
4. Producers will be required to complete and submit a Strychnine Use Declaration Form and Treatment Plan before purchasing strychnine.
5. After applying strychnine, producers must complete and submit a Product Evaluation Form. This form, along with the empty bottles, must be returned to the County before more strychnine can be purchased.

Ticks are active throughout Alberta and are commonly found in grassy, brushy, and wooded areas. Whether you're working outdoors, hiking, camping, or enjoying local trails, it's important to take a few simple precautions to help prevent tick bites
✔️ Stay on cleared paths and avoid tall grass when possible
✔️ Wear long sleeves, long pants, and light-coloured clothing
✔️ Tuck pant legs into your socks or boots
✔️ Use insect repellent and follow label directions
✔️ Check yourself, children, pets, clothing, and gear after spending time outdoors
✔️ Shower after spending time in tick-prone areas
A quick tick check only takes a few minutes and can help you, your family, and your pets enjoy the outdoors safely this season.
