Exciting news, Sussex! On Saturday, June 27th, 2026, our New Brunswick team will be at the annual Paint the Town Fun Run in support of Sussex Vale Transition House, one of our local referral agencies. We’re thrilled to be in the community to share more about our work and meet new volunteers to grow our team. As we continue to expand our services and partner with local agencies to support more survivors, we need YOU to help us make a real difference.

💛 Understanding Financial Abuse 💛

Financial abuse is a common form of domestic violence that is often overlooked.

It may include:
💛 controlling access to money
💛 preventing someone from working
💛 monitoring purchases
💛 forcing someone to account for every dollar spent
💛 creating debt in someone else’s name
💛 withholding financial information

Financial abuse can make it difficult for someone to leave an unhealthy relationship and maintain independence.

Everyone deserves the ability to make decisions about their own finances and future.

Understanding financial abuse helps us recognize that abuse is not always physical.

Domestic violence affects more than just the person experiencing abuse.

Children who witness abuse may experience:

💛 difficulty concentrating
💛 changes in behaviour
💛 challenges at school
💛 feelings of confusion or guilt

Even when children do not directly witness abuse, they can often sense tension, fear, and instability within the home.

Supporting families impacted by domestic violence helps create safer, healthier futures for children and caregivers alike.

No child should have to grow up feeling unsafe.

Our services are available whether you are:
💛 experiencing abuse
💛 concerned about a relationship
💛 supporting a loved one
💛 looking for information and resources

Support may include:
💛 safety planning
💛 emotional support
💛 advocacy
💛 referrals to community resources
💛 information about options

You do not need to stay at a shelter to access outreach services.

You do not need proof.
You do not need to be ready to leave.
You do not need to be in crisis.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Elder abuse can take many forms - physical, emotional, spiritual, sexual, financial, neglect, and coercive control. It often goes unseen, especially when older adults rely on others for care.

Women and gender-diverse people are disproportionately affected--facing added risks due to a lifetime of gender-based discrimination, economic inequality, and social isolation.

Let's continue building a compassionate society where we support and honor the dignity, safety, and autonomy of older adults. 💜
