🚨Rating Change!🚨
Effective immediately (June 1, 2026) the fire rating has increased to HIGH.
No non-recreational fires are permitted.
And all non-recreational fire permits are suspended until further notice.
If you’re having a camp fire exercise extreme caution and adhere to all open air burning rules.

Reminder for campfires:
~ Fire must be under constant supervision
~ Wind speeds must not exceed 20km/h
~ Campfires must not exceed 2’X2’
~ Campfires must be minimum of 20’ from
combustible objects or structures.
~ adequate means of suppression must be
immediately available

Recently our department has had a few examples of open-air burning permits being acquired for the incorrect municipality.

When getting a permit for open-air burning, ensure you are using the correct municipal website for the address/location you are having the fire.
Rules and regulations vary between, the Village of Sundridge, Township of Strong, and Township of Joly.
Permits are only valid for each specific municipality.

Effective May 6,2026 the fire rating has increased to MODERATE.
While the rules around open air burning remain the same this highlights an increased risk for open-air burning.

Reminders:
~You must have means of suppression
~Wind speed must not be greater than 20km/h
~Fire must be supervised at all times
~Burning only during permitted hours

website)

With the weather warming up and dry ground cover conditions remember to review the open-air burning bylaw in your municipality.

Reminders:

~Confirm current fire rating prior to starting your open-air
fire

~Fires are not permitted with wind speeds greater than
20 km/h

~Ensure a safe distance between fires and combustibles

April 1st marks the start to our fire rating season.

Important open air burning reminders:

~No daytime burning
~Wind speeds must not exceed 20km per hour
~Fire must be attended by a competent person at all times.
~Adequate means of suppression must be immediately
available (buckets of water, hose, etc.)
