The Cabin

The Cabin The MacEwan-Foran-Aebli-Shedden Cabin...the most magical place imaginable and beloved of everyone who ever saw it.

The cabin was built in the early 70s by Grant MacEwan, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Gramp was committed to creating a cabin in the manner his prairie pioneer forefathers would have done. As such, he built the entire structure using no power tools. He dug and poured the foundation by hand, notched and fitted every log by hand, and did the finishing in the traditional manner. This was

a true labour of love, and his wife Phyllis, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, similarly chose each antique piece inside with her characteristic flair and eye for detail. We all came to see the cabin as a lasting legacy to their memories. We of the current generation loved it, cared for it and enjoyed it just as Grant and Phyllis MacEwan would have wanted.

Thank you, everyone, for sharing your memories and photos, for your offers of help and your expressions of sympathy. Knowing how you loved the cabin makes the loss less acute somehow - makes it seem less "gone". - Lee

Here's a Fiona memory...I was telling the girls about this particular cabin memory that I love, and that was sitting at the kitchen table, by lamplight, and hand drawing and lettering Lee's and my wedding invitations, when I was newly pregnant with Raine.

I love the idea of this page. I look forward to reading all the memories of those who were fortunate enough to spend time at our beautiful home away from home. I'm still so shocked. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support these past 2 days. ♥ Kelsey

I miss the cabin so much. I remember we were on the giant teeter-toter and Rebecca and I fell off. Another memory was when all of us kids were walking on the deck rail and Rebecca fell off and Raine did a flying leap off the deck rail!
