GOOD NEWS: A small town in Canada, Terrasse-Vaudreuil, has become the first municipality in the country to recognize trees as living beings with rights.🌳
The town called the resolution the Universal Declaration of Tree Rights. It was initiated in 2018 to address deforestation worldwide. After eight years, the resolution has been adopted by the Quebec town.
Local city officials say the resolution will be followed with programs focused on protecting city trees, planting more trees, and building community programs around tree protection.
This is one example of the growing Rights of Nature movement. Around the world, local and national governments are adopting resolutions to safeguard trees, bodies of water, and wildlife.
