'Twas the Night Before the Garage Sale

'Twas the night before the garage sale, when all through the town,
Not a bargain was missing, not a deal to be found.
The signs were all planted by driveways with care,
In hopes that eager treasure hunters soon would be there.

The sellers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sold items danced in their heads.
With tables all set and the prices just right,
They hoped for great weather and shoppers at first light.

When out on the street there arose such a chatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew in a flash,
And looked down the road at the signs and the stash.

The moon on the lawns of old Smithville and West Lincoln bright,
Gave a glow to the treasures awaiting daylight.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But maps full of addresses and bargains far and near!

There were toys and antiques and furniture too,
Tools, books, baby clothes, and collectibles new.
From one end of town to the next shoppers would roam,
Searching for hidden treasures to carry back home.

At the churches, excitement was building as well,
Where vendors and outreach programs had stories to tell.
Food trucks stood ready with treats to delight,
Preparing for visitors from morning till night.

The volunteers worked with community pride,
Helping the event grow year after year far and wide.
With over 150 stops visited before,
This year's treasure hunt promised even more.

And I heard them exclaim as they turned out the light,

"Happy Garage Sale Eve to all, and to all a good night!"
