Happy New Year to all who are dropping by here once in awhile! We are casually meeting up from time to time. Our next is Saturday, February 2 from 10 am to 12 pm. If you'd like to join us just let me know in the comments and I will send you the address. What are you reading these days? I'm currently reading The Coldest Night by Robert Olmstead, a literary book on the Korean War & a love story. And on my shelf next is a new release, Bellevue Square by Michael Redhill, a Toronto author. I've never read him before and apparently he also writes crime novels under the name Inger Ash Wolfe. I can let you know what I think at our next meet up!

Hello All,

Our last read was well received, and do recommend reading Through My Eyes by Tim Tebow, if you haven’t yet! Our next read is Tessa Afshar’s, Bread of Angels. You can read more about it below. There are copies at the Strathcona Library as well as for purchase at Amazon etc.

Please note there is no Book Club in March. We’ll be meeting again on Thursday, April 19th at 7pm.

Purple . The foundation of an influential trade in a Roman world dominated by men. One woman rises up to take the reins of success in an incredible journey of courage, grit, and friendship. And along the way, she changes the world. But before she was Lydia, the seller of purple, she was simply a merchant's daughter who loved three things: her father, her ancestral home, and making dye. Then unbearable betrayal robs her of nearly everything. With only her father's secret formulas left, Lydia flees to Philippi and struggles to establish her business on her own. Determination and serendipitous acquaintances-along with her father's precious dye-help her become one of the city's preeminent merchants. But fear lingers in every shadow, until Lydia meets the apostle Paul and hears his message of hope, becoming his first European convert. Still, Lydia can't outrun her secrets forever, and when past and present collide, she must either stand firm and trust in her fledgling faith or succumb to the fear that has ruled her life. Funny story...when I left our last meeting where we had Tim's book on the table at the school library, half way home I noticed the book was in my purse. I stole a book from the church school library! I turned around to return it and when I got out of my car I slipped on some ice and hit the ground hard! And so did Tim's book! And, must admit, took me awhile to get back up. haha! I did get the book back to the library unscathed and don't think anyone knows...well accept whoever reads this. :)

Our current read! Tim Tebow-Through My Eyes. We'll be meeting on Thursday, Feb 15 at 7pm in the Staff Room at Sherwood Park Alliance Church. Look forward to seeing you then!

From the back cover:

Tim Tebow
His Life, His Words

Over the course of the past five years, Tim Tebow has established himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of college football and a top prospect in the NFL. During that time he has amassed an unparalleled resume—winning two BCS national championships, becoming the first sophomore in NCAA history to win the Heisman Trophy, and, in the face of massive public scrutiny, being drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. Now, in Through My Eyes, Tebow writes about life as he chooses to live it, revealing how his Christian faith, his family values, and his relentless drive to succeed have molded him into the person and the athlete he is today.

The son of Christian missionaries, Tebow detailshis early years—from the circumstances of his birth in the Philippines to his homeschooled upbringing to his parents' emphasis on developing his character and deepening his belief whenever possible. Setting the record straight, he tells the story of his long and difficult path to becoming a quarterback, a path that at every stage was blocked by coaches telling him he'd never make it, that he should just give up and switch positions. Yet despite the critics, he believed—not just in himself but in the plan God had laid out for him—and time after time his deter-mination and dedication proved his detractors wrong.

Taking you from his first week of Pop Warner practice to his record-setting career at Florida to his rookie season in Denver, Tebow goes inside the huddle on his biggest wins and most frustrating losses, showing how through both triumph and defeat he has grown as a leader, as a person, and as a follower of Jesus Christ. What emerges is a captivating portrait of a man whose passions demand the best from teammates, whose words inspire faith in others, and whose heart leaves everything on the field.

At every step, Tebow's life has defied conventionand expectation. While parts of his life have been well-documented, these stories have always been filtered through the opinions and words of others. With this book he offers a firsthand, never-before-told account of how it all really happened—on the field, behind the scenes, and through his eyes.

Next Meeting, Thursday December 21 at 7pm at Sherwood Park Alliance Church Staff Room

Hope the season finds you well. And that you'll be able to drop in for our last book club meeting of 2017! If you've read the book, wonderful! However this is also a time for fellowship too and hoping all can make this last one of the year, even if you can just drop in for a bit.

December book is
The Christmas Angel Project by Melody Carlson

Abby Wentworth is the glue that holds her book club together. So when she unexpectedly passes away on the cusp of the Christmas season, the rest of the women in the group are stunned, saddened, and sure that, without her, the group can't continue.

They gather "one last time" to open gifts Abby left behind, little knowing how it will change each of their lives--forever.

It is available in kindle.

Also available at the Strathcona Library. I have a copy and will be back at the library next week.

See you soon!
