Our fourth and final competitor for the Ayden Young Chef Scholarship Competition is Cassy Smart:

My name is Cassy Smart and I am from Estevan, Saskatchewan. I moved to Saskatoon last year after making the decision to go to culinary school to pursue cooking as a career. I currently work at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club and I am also a full time culinary student going into my second year at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. I got into cooking because it has always been a part of my life since a young age. Cooking allows me to be express my creativity on a plate. I love to try new flavours and well as unique plating styles.

For our next competitor, we have a returnee from our outdoor competition at Prairie Feast: Street Fair in 2016, Morgan Esquirol!

Here's more from Morgan herself:

My name is Morgan Esquirol. I am 21 years old and originally from North Battleford, SK. I currently work at Riverside Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon, SK, under the leadership of Executive Chef, Shaun McConnell. I took interest in cooking from a young age, learning basic skills from my grandmother. I received my Culinary Arts diploma in 2017, and from there went on to take a Meat Processing certificate this past winter.

There is such a wide variety of skills to be learned that the opportunities for growth as a cook are endless. The process of dreaming an idea, bringing it to reality, and that dish being critiqued and enjoyed by others is what excites me in this career

What would be an amazing Prairie Feast if we didn't have the Ayden Young Chef Scholarship Competition?

On August 18, 2018, just a few hours before Prairie Feast: For the Love of Art, we'll be hosting the third edition of our competition to find some amazing young culinary talent from around the province.

The competition is for chefs under the age of 25 who are residents of Saskatchewan, and the top entries will compete at The Local Kitchen on Saturday, August 18, 2018.

The Ayden Young Chef Scholarship is designed to engage young chefs and promote the abundance of young passion and talent we have in Saskatchewan. The aim of the scholarship is to provide the guidance and knowledge to connect young talent to restaurants throughout the province, and help put these budding chefs on a successful career path.

For the submission process, every young chef will submit a recipe and a photo of their completed dish. On Saturday, August 18, the top four finalists will compete at the Local Kitchen for a chance to win a trip to Calgary and stage at nationally recognized and awarded restaurants, with some of the premiere chefs in the country. Accommodations, flights and dinners from each establishment for 3 nights/4 days will be provided for the winner.

The Ayden Young Chef Competition will bring out the best of the student’s abilities to produce and compose a completed dish in a certain time frame using local ingredients and to regulations of the competition.

Judging this year's competition will be competitors from season 6 of Top Chef Canada, who will be in town to participate in Prairie Feast.

This years competition was fantastic! Thank you to everyone who sent in an application, and to those who competed. We can't wait for next year!

We want to send out a big congrats to our Ayden Young Chef Scholarship Competition first prize winner, Adrianna Remlinger!

One of our favourite parts of Prairie Feast is witnessing the culinary skills of each young chef, as well as their demeanor throughout the competition. Each competitor put up beautiful plates, and it was not an easy task for the judges to decide a winner. When it came down announcing first place, it was great to not only see the joy in Adrianna's face, but the excitement each competitor had for each other.

Congratulations to each young chef who competed, our second place winner - Minette Lotz, and runner-ups Carl Recolaso, Jordan Zuck, and Morgan Esquirol.
