What we do:

United Way Niagara exists to support the most vulnerable people, when and where they need it, by investing in life-changing programs that strengthen the social safety net and build capacity in Niagara. We face poverty head on, addressing the interconnected issues it causes every day; homelessness, food insecurity, isolation, mental health and addiction. United, we address the challeng

es of today – meeting basic, urgent needs - while building a stronger community for everyone who lives here, paving the way for a better tomorrow. How we do it:

United Way Niagara not only meets the immediate, urgent and basic needs in the short term, we also bring together the private, public and social sectors to tackle the systemic social issues that are often the root cause of these needs. We understand that in order for whole communities to thrive, the needs of every individual living there must be met. Needs such as access to nutritious food, safe housing, stable income and social connections. We also understand that complex social issues are often caused by systemic problems that are fundamental contributing factors to vulnerability. Poverty, discrimination and inequity are prime examples of these issues. Why give to United Way? Local Giving. 100% Local Impact. Funds donated here – stay here. United Way Niagara serves all 12 municipalities across Niagara. We invest millions of dollars every year, strengthening the social safety net of community agencies and forging partnerships to meet immediate needs and drive lasting solutions to poverty. United, we:
• Provide stable funding to a network of social service agencies and projects;
• Support local research, policies, frameworks and programs that build capacity
• Create and foster unique partnerships that ensure timely and equitable access to services and supports;
• Create and manage the delivery of programs that fill current sector gaps. With your support, we can continue to direct critical funds where they can make the biggest impact – breaking the cycle of poverty for future generations. Put simply, a gift to United Way changes local lives. We will only continue to make impactful change with the generosity of donors who support our community fundraising efforts, like you. We are ready to continue pushing forward alongside our dedicated supporters, every step of the way.

The Spark United hygiene drive at Notre Dame College School was such a wonderful success, and we could not be more proud of the students who made it happen. Seeing this school community come together with so much generosity and heart was truly special. Every single donation reflected kindness, care, and a genuine willingness to support others in the community.

Because of the dedication and teamwork of the Spark United students, an incredible number of essential hygiene items were collected to help individuals and families across Niagara. Together, the school community donated:

Toothbrushes: 845
Toothpaste: 94
Period products: 17
Deodorant: 32
Bar soap: 82
Razors: 6
Shampoo & conditioner: 23
Body wash: 21
Mouthwash: 6
Body lotion: 7
Wipes: 4
Floss: 4
Miscellaneous items: 21

Total items collected: 1,162

These numbers represent compassion in action, students stepping up for their community, and a shared commitment to making sure everyone has access to basic necessities.

This success is a reflection of the Spark United volunteer program led by United Way Niagara, which gave students the opportunity to learn about their community and discover how they can make a difference. Throughout the program, students participated in focus group style learning, where they explored United Way Niagara’s priority areas like poverty, food security, and access to basic needs. These conversations helped build empathy, awareness, and a stronger sense of responsibility to care for others.

Inspired by what they learned, students worked together to organize this hygiene drive from start to finish. They shared ideas, encouraged participation, and supported one another every step of the way. Watching students lead with compassion and pride in their community was truly heartwarming.

A very heartfelt thank you to the entire community at Notre Dame College School for your continued support of the United Way Niagara. Your generosity, encouragement, and willingness to give back helped turn this initiative into something really special. 💙☘️
