Back to School: Be a Safe Pedestrian!

Now that students are settling into their second week of school, we’d like to share 10 helpful tips from ICBC to help students, parents, and all pedestrians stay safe on the roads.

Drivers: Please remember that school zones are busy places. Slow down, put your phone away, and watch carefully for students crossing the road.

Today we had the opportunity to celebrate new beginnings, new roles, and well-deserved recognition for several members of our CSPS family.

We proudly welcomed a new Recruit Constable, who was officially sworn in and is beginning an exciting journey in policing. We also welcomed a retired police member back to the department on contract as a Special Municipal Constable — bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge back to our team.

Behind the scenes, we welcomed a new Records Support Coordinator, whose work plays an important part in keeping our department running smoothly and supporting the service we provide to our community.

We also celebrated two well-deserved promotions — to Records Supervisor and Staff Sergeant. These promotions recognize not only hard work and dedication, but also the leadership and commitment these members bring to their colleagues and our community every day.

We’re incredibly proud of our team and excited for all that lies ahead. Please join us in giving a warm welcome and congratulations to everyone celebrated today!

Welcome back to school!

As students head back to school today, you can expect to see our officers out in school zones across the community helping keep students, families, and staff safe. Our presence won’t be limited to the first day. Expect continued enforcement and visibility in school zones throughout this week, this month, and throughout the school year.

Please slow down, stay alert, follow posted speed limits, and watch carefully for children walking, biking, and crossing the road. Give yourself a little extra time and give everyone a little extra space.

Let’s make getting to and from school safely everyone’s priority.

The backpacks are packed, the lunches are ready, and the first day of school is almost here! As our kids head back to classrooms, buses, playgrounds and busy sidewalks, it’s a great time for a quick safety refresher. ❤️

🚗 Slow down in school zones — especially during drop-off and pick-up. Put the phone away and watch for little feet.

🚸 Teach kids to stop, look & listen before crossing the street — even when they have the right of way.

🚌 Bus safety matters — stay back from the road, wait until the bus has completely stopped, and never walk behind a bus.

🎧 Eyes and ears up — headphones and phones can make it harder to notice traffic and other hazards.

👋 Know the plan — make sure your child knows who is picking them up, where they're going after school, and who they can ask for help if plans change.

🏫 Walk through the route together — identify safe crossings, landmarks and places they can go if they feel uncomfortable or get separated.

💬 Most importantly, remind kids that they can always come to you if something doesn't feel right.

A few minutes of preparation can make a huge difference. Here's to a safe, happy and amazing school year! 🍎💙

The Labour Day long weekend is here! We hope everyone has an opportunity to relax, enjoy time with family and friends, and make the most of the final long weekend of summer.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Labour Day long weekend. If you're heading out, please plan ahead, stay safe, and look out for one another.

The Saanich Fair returns September 4–7, and we’re looking forward to seeing our community come together for a weekend of family fun!

Our dedicated volunteers will be at our police booth, located just inside the main gate. Stop by, say hello, and learn more about the work we do in our community. Safety is always a priority, and you’ll likely see our officers walking the fairgrounds, helping ensure the event is a safe, welcoming, and fun experience for everyone.

As you enjoy everything else the fair has to offer, please keep an eye on children, stay aware of your surroundings, don't leave bags unattended, and follow event safety guidelines.

We look forward to connecting with you and helping make this year’s Saanich Fair an event that brings families, friends, and neighbours together.

See you at the fair!

School is back in less than a week, and we’re reminding parents and caregivers to know the rules before your child rides an e-bike or electric scooter to school.

⚠️ Not everything with an electric motor is an e-bike — and not everything is legal on our roads. Illegal use can result in fines, charges, impoundment and financial liability for riders and parents.

🏫Schools may have their own rules about bringing e-bikes and e-scooters onto school property. Check with your child’s school before they ride.

There are important differences between legal e-bikes, electric kick scooters, and electric motorcycles/dirt bikes. Take a look at our guide below to find out what’s street legal — and what isn’t.

Know the rules. Ride safe. Get to school safely! 🚲

Today, we recognize International Overdose Awareness Day. 💜

Overdose deaths have increased significantly over the past 20 years around the world. Every overdose is preventable. We remember those lost to overdose and recognize the individuals, families, and communities impacted by substance use and addiction.

At CSPS, we are committed to working alongside our community and our partners to raise awareness, reduce stigma, prevent overdose deaths, and connect people with the support and resources they need.

Today, and every day, we continue working toward a safer, healthier community.

Our members have been out conducting speed enforcement recently on Stellys Cross Rd between Wallace Drive and East Saanich Road. Many drivers have been stopped travelling 25 km/h or more over the posted 40 km/h limit. Officers took the opportunity to provide warnings and educate drivers about the new 40 km/h speed limit in the area.

Speed limits are put in place to help keep everyone safe — drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and our neighbours. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the new limits and adjust your speed accordingly.

CSPS was happy to be part of the four-day Junior Police Camp held last week!

Our members had a great time connecting with, mentoring, and spending time with some amazing young people in our community. It was a great opportunity to give back, share some experiences, and hopefully inspire the next generation.

Thank you to the Greater Victoria Police Foundation and to everyone who helped make the camp such a great success!

What a week! GVPF’s Junior Police Camp is almost over, and these youth have had an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to celebrate their graduation tomorrow and thank the incredible police volunteers and donors who made it all possible. A special thank you to St. Margaret's School for hosting us! 💙👮‍♀️👮‍♂️
