The kids absolutely rocked our firefighter obstacle course! 👨‍🚒🔥 They crawled, carried, raced, and tackled every challenge like true future firefighters. We loved seeing all the smiles, cheering, and excitement! 💪😄

🚨 Test Your Smoke Alarm Day is September 28!

September 28 is a great reminder that only a working smoke alarm can save lives.

In Ontario, it is required to have smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors on every storey of your home. But having them installed is only part of the job — it’s your responsibility to make sure they are working!

✅ Test your alarms monthly
✅ Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for maintenance
✅ Replace alarms according to the manufacturer’s recommended lifespan (mostly 10 years)
✅ Make sure everyone in your home knows what the alarm sounds like and what to do when it goes off

🔥 This year, the Chisholm Fire Department will be visiting homes along South Shore Road!

Starting at 6:00 p.m. on September 28, our firefighters will be out in the community checking smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the firefighters who answered the call on September 11, 2001, and the brave individuals who have since lost their lives to 9/11-related illnesses.

Today, we honour their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to protecting others.

We kindly encourage everyone to take a moment to remember those who gave everything in service to others, and to show our continued respect for them, their families, and their fellow first responders.

🏠🔥 First-Time Renter? Fire Safety Is Your Responsibility Too!

As the first week of school comes to an end, we want to remind students who are living on their own for the first time that fire safety is now your responsibility too!

Whether you’re renting a house, apartment, basement unit, or sharing a place with roommates, take a few minutes to make sure your new home is fire safe. 🚒

✅ Check that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working
✅ Know two ways out of your home and keep exits clear
✅ Make sure everyone in your household knows where to meet outside
✅ Never leave cooking, candles, or other heat sources unattended
✅ Keep extension cords and electrical outlets from being overloaded
✅ Know where your fire extinguisher is and how to use it
✅ Keep hallways, stairways, and exits clear of clutter
✅ Talk to your roommates about what to do if the alarm sounds

Remember: Only working alarms work. Take a few minutes now to make sure you’re prepared before an emergency happens.

A huge thank you to the members of the East Ferris Fire Department for your quick response and assistance with a structure fire that happened on Friday.

Your teamwork, professionalism, and dedication were instrumental in bringing the fire under control. Thanks to the combined efforts of everyone on scene, we were able to save the structure.
