Heading out for the weekend? Donโ€™t let a simple packing mistake turn into a fire hazard. ๐Ÿ”‹๐Ÿš— Power banks are high-energy devices that need extra care when you're on the move.

Your Quick Packing Checklist:

Carry-on only: Pack power banks in carry-on bags onlyโ€”never in checked luggage.
Tape terminals: Prevent short circuits by taping over metal contacts or using individual plastic bags.
Avoid heat: Never leave power banks in direct sunlight or on a hot car dashboard.
Check damage: Inspect for swelling or leaks before you pack; never travel with a damaged item.

Travel Tip: Store your power banks where they are easy to reach and monitor during your trip. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธโ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿ”ฅ Wildfire season is in full swing, and now more than ever, we need to do our part to prevent wildfires and protect our community. A single spark can have devastating consequences, but together we can reduce the risk and help keep our homes, forests, and neighbours safe.

Did you snag a "Prime" deal on a device? Check the label. ๐Ÿ›’๐Ÿ”ฅ

Buying cheap, uncertified lithium-ion battery powered devices is a major fire hazard. โš ๏ธ Many third-party marketplace batteries lack the safety protections needed to prevent "thermal runaway" fires or explosions. ๐Ÿ’ฃ

Key Safety Checks:

Look for the Mark: Only use batteries with recognized Canadian certification marks: CSA, cUL, or cETL. โœ…
The Price Test: If the price is significantly lower than the official market rate, itโ€™s a red flag. ๐Ÿšฉ
Check the Packaging: Typos or poor grammar on the box should alarm you. ๐Ÿ“ฆโœ๏ธ
Buy OEM: Purchase replacements directly from the original manufacturer to ensure quality. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Protect your homeโ€”if it isn't certified, don't plug it in. ๐Ÿ

Heat is a battery killer.

Lithium-ion batteries in phones and power tools fail when they get too hot. Leaving them in direct sun on a deck or in a parked car causes the internal chemistry to break down, leading to swelling and fire risks.

Tools: Keep them in the shade on the job site.
Phones: Take them with you. A parked car is an oven.
Charging: If the device is hot, let it cool before plugging it in.

With the hot temperatures and high humidity, it's important to do your part to help prevent wildfires this summer. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Here are a few simple ways you can reduce the risk:

โ€ข Prevent accidental fires: Avoid burning brush, using fireworks, or leaving campfires unattended. Always make sure campfires are completely extinguished before leaving.

โ€ข Dispose of flammable materials properly: Never throw cigarette butts, glass, or other combustible materials into wooded or grassy areas.

โ€ข Reduce fire risks around your home: Clear away dry grass and brush, store firewood and flammable materials safely away from your home, and keep grills away from buildings and vegetation.

โ€ข Be cautious in forested areas: Avoid parking on dry grass, use extra care when smoking outdoors, and help keep forests free of illegal dumping and other fire hazards.

โ€ข Stay alert: Report any suspicious activity and encourage your family, friends, and neighbours to practice wildfire prevention.

A few simple precautions can make a big difference in protecting our community and our forests. Stay safe and enjoy your summer responsibly! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿš’
