What an amazing weekend!!! Despite rain being in the forecast, we got a complete day of surveying in on Saturday and Sunday morning. The rain did come Sunday afternoon which kept a few people away, but the "keeners" who did come were amazing!!
We have already surpassed our species total from last year, and we have a tonne of observations left to add! You can check out our project on iNaturalist here: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2018-northumberland-bioblitz-in-the-ganaraska-forest
So many people and organizations to thank, there are bound to be a few we forget, but without the hard work and cooperation of Sarah Steele, Kim Stephens, Amy Griffiths Ganaraska, Ken Towle, the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority, the Ganaraska Forest Centre and the Biodiversity Education & Awareness Network we couldn't have made this event the success it was!
Of course we also need experts for an event like this, and we had an amazing roster! Joshua Feltham, John Urquhart and everyone from Blazing Star Environmental, Roland Law, Jessica Ferguson, Mikal Lawton, Gary Yankevich, Sarah Lauren McGuire, Sarah Robbins, Rob Lonsberry, Ayden Sherritt, Bill Crins, Roger Frost, Taylor Huff, Julia D'Costa, Erin Kelly, Paulette Hebert, Bethany Linton, Kathryn Peiman, Zack Harris, Luke Roman, Michelle Ko and Kim Teager without all of you we couldn't have done what we did! You guys are truly all amazing people first, and experts as well!
Finally we need to thank everyone for helping make Sunday's public events a success. Despite the rain David Bree, Linds Allison, Kennedy Bucci and Cole Brookson were amazing!
And to top it all off we LOVED the presentation by Reptile and Amphibian Advocacy! Kenny Ruelland and Eric Woodleywere amazing and so great with the public!!
What a weekend! Hopefully we can move the blitz eastward next year....
