The Board of Directors of the Port George District Lighthouse Society would like to update the community on the restoration project on our lighthouse, the beacon of our community.

The restoration work was made possible thanks to the generous support of the following organizations, and individuals: The County of Annapolis, The Rotary Club of Middleton, Mike Veinot, and the numerous donations from members of our community and friends of our lighthouse. The lighthouse Dance is the cornerstone of our fundraising work as a society and without the proceeds of this annual event we would not be able to maintain our lighthouse or engage in capital projects such as this most recent refit.

This endeavor was not without its challenges. Areas of wood rot around the windows and other places, necessitating unanticipated cost over runs.

The Board of Directors will continue its’ fundraising efforts to support the ongoing upkeep of our lighthouse to ensure the beacon of light shines for the years to come. Any donations to defray cost overruns or ongoing maintenance will gratefully be accepted. You may contribute via e-transfer to [email protected]. Our Secretary, Michael Lawrie presented the Friends of Port George Lighthouse with a cheque for $3000 today to help them with restoration work on the iconic lighthouse.

Work is still in progress, but the Port George lighthouse will look better than ever in a couple of weeks when restoration works and the new long-lasting siding are complete.

🌟 Exciting Update from the Port George District Lighthouse Society! 🌟

We are thrilled to announce that restoration work has officially begun on our beloved lighthouse! 🛠️ The siding is being replaced, and other essential repairs are underway to preserve this historic treasure.

This project has been made possible thanks to the incredible support from our community and a generous grant from the County of Annapolis. 🙏 However, during the restoration, we discovered unexpected wood rot, which has increased the costs. To complete the project, we now need additional funds.

A huge thank you to the County of Annapolis for their continued support, and to Mike Veinot Construction for their dedicated work on this project.

Earlier this year, we also began restoring the seawall, which will continue once the lighthouse work is complete. The County of Annapolis has generously contributed to this project as well.

Some of you may have noticed the Port George Lighthouse is not looking it's best at the moment. Well this year it will be having a little bit of a glow up, it's getting a make over!

As always we love donations, maintaining a lighthouse isn't cheap and we all love Port George lighthouse.
