Big thank you to Port Alberni Port Authority for giving our wrestling team the opportunity to work hard this weekend and earn some fundraising dollars. Even bigger thank you to the wrestlers, parents and coaches who came out to support this fundraiser. Many hands make light work! The fantastic weather was an added bonus.

Big congratulations to ADSS and AVWC Alumni Paige Maher on her accomplishment of becoming an NCAA All American, the culmination of so much hard work, dedication and resilience through obstacles. We are so proud of you as a wrestler but most importantly we are proud of the person that you are.

As we conclude our high school season and look towards nationals we want to say a big thank you to the Rotary club for their very generous donation to the AVWC. Our community does so much for youth sports, we are so thankful for their generous support.

The final choice for ADSS Wrestler of the Week for the 2025/2026 high school season is Grade 11 wrestler Theris Ward.

Theris was selected by his peers after winning his wrestle-off to earn his spot at Provincials. It was a tough, hard-fought match, and as his teammates shared, “He didn’t give up, even though it would have been hard to do that with everyone watching.” His determination and composure under pressure truly stood out.

The coaches agree that Theris is an excellent choice for this recognition. Although he is new to the sport, his passion for wrestling is evident at every practice. He is eager to learn, consistently pushes himself to improve, and always shows appreciation for his coaches and teammates. His growth this season has been impressive, and his work ethic reflects the culture of our program.

The ADSS team heads to Provincials tomorrow and is ready to leave it all on the mats. We are proud of Theris and the entire team as they prepare to compete.

Good luck at Provincials! 💪

This week‘s wrestler of the week is Grade 8 Samantha Chandler. Samantha was chosen by her peers as wrestler of the week this week “because even though there were a lot of tough matches at the Islands last weekend when a Grade 8 girl makes it to the final it turns some heads, then when we came back to the practice room this week and she worked hard for four practises in a row it clinched it for her.” Coaches agree that Samantha has had an amazing season so far she has natural ability, coupled with hard work and will be one to watch in the years to come. Keep up the good work Sami!! Wrestlers were working hard this week in preparation for provincials.
