Welcome to the Shire of Danescombe, a proud part of the Principality of Tir Righ, in the Kingdom of An Tir, and a branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Our shire covers a large area in the Okanagan Valley of BC, stretching from the mundane borders of Kelowna in the north, to the far edges of Penticton in south. As members of the SCA, we explore various aspects of medieval re-creation. Th

ese range from medieval dance to medieval cooking, sword fighting to heraldry, costuming to glass work, embroidery to leatherwork, and almost any other medieval craft you can imagine. Our populace is creative, energetic and very talented, and we look forward to helping you pursue your historical passion, and to sharing ours with you.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I break this news.
Master James Llewellyn has passed while surrounded by friends and family and much love.

Light a candle, raise a glass, or simply remember him.

Yours in service with a deeply broken heart,

Aniko

Greetings all!

The Shire has been approached by the Cottonwoods Care home to come by and entertain their residents with a demo of martial prowess and Artistic endeavors.

We are looking to spend an afternoon or so showing off what we love most about our game. So far the tentative plan is Saturday, September 28th.

We will need as many Armoured, Cut N Thrust, Rapier, A&S, and Bardic humans to give them a show!

Who among you will join us in our great game to give back to those who cannot get out much. Who can commit to attending the Shire demo at Cottonwoods?

Please post here, or DM Murdoch so that we can get numbers.

Thank you for helping us help the community!

One of the largest challenges in making a case for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the SCA is that we do not have a full picture of the demographics of the members and thus cannot accurately gauge the positive impact that DEI efforts will have. Scribal Painting this Thursday at 6:30 in Peachland (4450 6th Street) in conjunction with Rapier Practice.

I will have on hand Thank You cards for painting. I will provide all the materials required. This is an excellent opportunity for all levels including beginners.

There is a $5 attendance fee to all attending, but we are safely out of the snow, the cold and the dark.

New resolution from the BoD:

“To further inclusion of cultural diversity in the SCA, the following Resolution was adopted by the Board:

Whereas some historical cultures are based on oral traditions; and
Whereas some historical cultures lost historical documentation due to environmental and human intervention; and
Whereas many historical cultures existed outside of the European sphere.

The Board of Directors does hereby direct all officers whose area of influence would be naturally affected by this directive, to develop a protocol for the full recognition and approval of aspects of cultures not based wholly on written documentation, but sufficiently shown to be in existence during the period covered under SCA guidelines.”

Greetings from Saif and Allesandra

Time is fast approaching for our investiture in the lovely shire of Hartwood.
With this event we will also being seeing championship tournaments for both archery and heavy, and those formats shall be presented to you shortly.
We are excited to see you prove yourself and bear witness to your prowess. There will be separate processionals for both tournaments that will be taking place before the thrones then moving to the appropriate fields.
We are asking two things from all entrants.
First - At the coronet tourney in june we so enjoyed the pageantry with the banners and different heraldry on display that we are asking you to bring these with you for your processional. This display can be any form. Banner, surcoat, baldric, decorated tunic, shield. We feel this adds to the event as a whole and helps us all embrace the experience more. If you don't have a device that is ok, we are just asking that you try to come up with something that helps us identify you on the field.
Second – We feel the importance of having an inspiration for both tournaments. As is the tradition which connects back to the original tournament that initiated this great Society, inspiration, honour, and noble prowess will be on full display.
As Our princess Gemma said at the last coronet tourney This doesn’t need to be a person of romantic interest, just the ideal that you are bringing forward on the field. This inspiration can take many forms. A partner, a friend, a family member. They should represent something that inspires you , be it love, strength, or pure joy
Please know this is something we are encouraging but is not a requirement. We don’t want to limit participation in the different events, so if these requirements would provide undo hardship please communicate with us.
WIth regards to anyone competing in the champion’s tournaments please be mindful of the oath you will be swearing. It is important that we remember that these tournaments carry an oath of responsibility. As we swore to reign; anyone entering these tournaments are swearing to carry out the duties of champion as listed below.
1. Duties of All Champions
a. To swear an oath of fealty and service to the Coronet.
b. To defend the honour and prestige of the Coronet and the Principality of Tir Righ, whenever such is challenged and to support the Coronet in war.
c. To attend all Coronet Events. Prior notification to Their Highnesses and Their Heirs must be made if the Champion is unable to attend.
d. To maintain membership in the Society during the Champion's term of service.
e. To speak or act in the Coronet's name when delegated to do so.
f. To further the interests of their area of endeavor.
g. To have access to the Northern Sentinel for the duration of their championship, in addition to membership requirements set forth in Kingdom Law and Corpora.
h. To organize the tournament to choose their successor
We look forward to seeing you there next month.
Tanist and ban-Tanist Saif and Alessandra
With the full and joyous support from their highnesses Stein and Gemma
