Construction Update - August 28th, 2026

Construction progress continues in Palmerston as the contractor is focused on completing the new roundabout at the intersection of Minto Road and Main Street.

Starting Monday, August 31, construction crews will resume work on Main Street East between York Street and Cumberland Street.

During this phase of construction, temporary traffic signals will be in place to maintain one lane of traffic through the work zone, and motorists should expect delays and reduced speeds through the area. Traffic control measures will be in place to safely accommodate both vehicles and pedestrians.

Toronto Street is still open to traffic
King Street will be reopened to traffic

Residents on adjacent side streets may notice an increase in traffic volumes as motorists seek alternate routes around the construction area. Please use caution, watch for increased vehicle activity, and help keep our neighbourhood streets safe for all users.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and visitors as these important improvements continue. Please follow all posted signage, obey traffic signals, and exercise extra caution when travelling through or around the construction zone.

Construction Update - August 12th

Work continues on the Main Street Reconstruction Project in Palmerston, and we have an important traffic update for residents, businesses, and motorists.

Good News! Toronto Street between Milton Seiler Crescent and Main Street East is now OPEN to traffic.

Road Closure in Effect: King Street (Wellington Road 8) between Main Street West and Lorne Street South is now closed to through traffic.
Main Street East and West remain open, but traffic will continue to be reduced to a single lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals.

If you’re travelling through the area: Expect delays, allow extra travel time, follow posted detour signs, & consider alternate routes when possible

Access to local homes and businesses will be maintained whenever possible; however, temporary interruptions may be necessary as construction activities continue.

The Main Street Reconstruction Project began in April and is expected to continue through late November as we make important infrastructure improvements in our community.

Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and cooperation while this work is underway. Your support helps keep everyone safe and keeps the project moving forward.

Construction Update - July 9th, 2026

Residents and visitors will start to notice some exciting changes along Main Street as construction continues to move forward.

Earlier this week, crews completed the placement of new concrete curbs at the Toronto Street roundabout, helping define the shape of the new intersection and giving the community a first look at how the completed roundabout will take shape.

In addition, installation of the new sidewalks is now underway, bringing visible improvements that will enhance accessibility and pedestrian connectivity throughout the area.

Construction has also officially begun at the Minto Road roundabout, with crews starting roadway and underground infrastructure work in the area. This marks another major milestone as work continues to progress along Main Street.

Construction Update - June 8th, 2026

Installation of the new storm sewer system is nearing completion between York Street and Bridge Crescent. In conjunction with the underground works, roadway excavation has been substantially completed and new granular road base materials have been installed throughout much of this section.

Over the coming week, the Contractor will continue advancing east toward the Toronto Street intersection.

Construction activities at the Toronto Street roundabout are anticipated to commence within the next week and will include underground servicing, roadway reconstruction, and associated infrastructure improvements.

To facilitate this work, Toronto Street is now closed to through traffic. A signed detour route has been implemented and motorists are asked to follow the posted detour signage. Local access for residents, businesses, and emergency services will be maintained where possible; however, temporary delays and access restrictions may occur as construction progresses through the area.

We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation during these improvements and will continue to provide updates as the work advances.
