The Regional Municipality of York is made up of nine municipalities and provides services to over 1.25 million residents, 57,000 businesses and 629,000 employees. York Region has a two-tier government structure, with services provided by the Region and local area municipal governments. The Region provides services for its residents and businesses that include transportation services, transit, water, wastewater, emergency services, policing, human services and growth management. York Region covers 1,776 square kilometres from Lake Simcoe in the north to Steeles Avenue in the south. It borders Simcoe County and Peel Region in the west and Durham Region in the east. York Region's landscape includes farmlands, wetlands and kettle lakes, the Oak Ridges Moraine and over 2,500 hectares of Regional forest.

Registration is now open for the 2026 York Region Tree Bee. 🌳🐝

Run by Forest Canada, this innovative program is designed to spark curiosity among students in Grades 4 to 6 (ages 9 to 12), and nurture their passion for learning about trees, forests and the environment.

The hands-on tree identification program includes a weeklong virtual competition to be held Monday, November 23 to Sunday November 29. Resources and activity sheets will be available to help kids prepare for the competition.

Slow down! Kids are back at school🎒

Students have returned to class across and our roads and neighborhood streets are much busier during morning and afternoon commute times.

Through York Region’s Vision Zero Traveller Safety Plan, we’re working to reduce severe collisions and make roads safer for everyone, especially vulnerable road users like children.

🚧 Traffic operations are changing for the Yonge Street widening project in the Town of Newmarket and Town of East Gwillimbury.

On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, we will start shifting traffic lanes to the east side of Yonge Street between Davis Drive and London Road. This change is required so crews can start to work on the west side of the road.

Traffic lanes will remain on the west side of Yonge Street between London Road and Green Lane, with watermain work continuing near Bristol Road.

Two lanes remain open in each direction with turning lanes, along the corridor.

Please drive with care through the construction zone.
