During Volunteer Week, we proudly celebrate individuals whose decades of commitment have safeguarded and uplifted our communities.
👨‍🚒 Mike German, Richard Comeau and Jimmy Deveau
Meteghan Fire Department
58 years of service
From recent conversations with all three:
“How we decided to join was that letters were sent in the mail to every household within our coverage area that volunteers were needed, and as many of our friends at the time were interested in joining, we followed suit and joined as well.
Our bunker gear at the time was just a raincoat, a pair of rubber hip boots size 12, rubber gloves and a plastic helmet.
The improvements in bunker gear, such as upgraded materials and better visibility features, have allowed members joining 15 to 20 years after us to be more protected and easier to see during emergency calls.
What started as responding to a need for volunteers has turned into close to 60 years of service from these three members.
Mike German: former captain, now vice president.
Richard Comeau: former lieutenant, past president, truck maintenance assistant.
Jimmy Deveau: former president, now assists with hall maintenance.
“We enjoy sharing what knowledge we've learned with younger members and even our seasoned members on memorable fire calls and past events.”
As one of 7 fire departments within the Municipality of Clare, we take pride in providing exceptional service to our residents.
Thank you, Mike, Richard, and Jimmy, for your unwavering dedication, kindness, and the lasting impact you've made on our community.
We are grateful for your decades of selfless service.
