Starting today, fire permit season is over. The weekly updates and changes will resume on April 1, 2026.
What does this mean? It means that you no longer need to contact the Fire Chief for a burn permit. The FDR will be set at moderate until such a time when the rating with the MNR is consistently low. It is still incumbent upon the property owner to follow the location, size, extinguishment and other regulations listed within the Open Air Burning Bylaw, you just don't need to check in first.

It's alive! McKellar Fire is thrilled with the near completion of a much needed infrastructure project for the township, with the full, fantastic support of Council. With the news last year that our existing tower was beyond its acceptable lifespan and in need of replacement, we began the process of replacing the old MTO tower with a new, better positioned home for our Fire Department and emergency preparedness communications. We now have crystal clear, reliable, digital communications with zero shadow areas from Blackwater to Balsam. At current, we are the only resident of the tower, with the potential for previous tower residents, or new ones, to join us here. The old MTO tower is slated for removal next spring.

McKellar Fire would like to thank residents for their patience during the construction process. We are confident that this will be a benefit to our community for many many years to come.
