Last chance to fill out the Green House Gas Inventory survey.

Your responses will help the Town of Mahone Bay better understand local energy use, home heating, transportation, waste, and wastewater practices.

This local information will strengthen our community-wide greenhouse gas inventory and help identify opportunities to reduce emissions and support future energy and climate programs.

The survey takes just a few minutes, and everyone who completes it will be entered into a draw to win a 72-hour emergency kit from the Town! The draw will be next Thursday, September 17.

Town of Mahone Bay and Riverport Electric power outage September 13th at 11.30pm

Nova Scotia Power will be having a brief 5 to 10 minute power outage on September 13th at 11.30pm.

This will affect all customers of Mahone Bay and Riverport Elecric.

The Living Shoreline is an environmental restoration project of significant importance. This is NOT a public beach. Please stay off the rocks, bank and sand, for your safety and to protect the plants and wildlife habitat.

If you see people walking on the Living Shoreline accessed by boat or by land, please notify the Town on 902-624-8327. Or point out one of the signs to them if you feel comfortable doing so.

Latest update on the Dares Lake Dam breach impacting Town of Lunenburg water supply.

WATER CONSERVATION REMAINS IN PLACE - DARES LAKE DAM BREACH UPDATE 5

Water conservation measures remain in place as emergency response to a breach at the Dares Lake dam is still underway.

Water conservation efforts have produced results overnight, with low reservoir levels continuing to improve. Two of the three pumps remain functional but not at full capacity. The third pump is not operational and will be replaced as soon as possible.

Residents and businesses in the Town of Lunenburg are reminded that they are required to limit usage to essential purposes only, such as drinking, cooking, and sanitation, with the Town of Lunenburg’s water conservation directive still in effect. If water levels continue to stabilize, some restrictions may be able to be eased. Water levels will be reassessed this afternoon.

The dam remains stable with berms and trenches continuing to divert water from the pumphouse.

Residents are reminded to stay away from the Dares Lake area and allow emergency personnel, contractors, and heavy equipment operators to work safely.

Local fire services have transitioned to rural firefighting operations if required. Water tankers and mutual aid resources are available and will be utilized as needed.

There is currently no immediate risk to public safety. Should additional measures be required, they will be activated to assist customers.

You may be aware by now that a dam breach has happened outside Lunenburg impacting the Town of Lunenburg water supply. Lunenburg REMO - Regional Emergency Management Organization is managing the emergency response to this incident.

Visitors staying or arriving in Lunenburg today and tour buses are being diverted back to neighbouring towns. Mahone Bay may be busier than usual today and in the coming days. It is more important than ever to offer a high level of kindness and hospitality where possible to people impacted by this event.

Thank you for offering the community support that is needed when our neighbours are facing a challenging event such as this.

WATER CONSERVATION CRITICAL - DARES LAKE DAM BREACH UPDATE 3

Response efforts resumed this morning at the Dares Lake dam following a pause overnight due to darkness and site safety considerations.

Water conservation remains critical. The breach has impacted critical water infrastructure, and all customers connected to the Town of Lunenburg municipal water system are asked to eliminate all non-essential water use.

Please use water only for essential needs such as drinking, cooking, sanitation, and hygiene.

Every litre conserved helps protect the community's available water supply while crews work to restore access to the site and assess critical infrastructure.

Residents are reminded to stay away from the Dares Lake area and allow emergency personnel and contractors to work safely.

As a precaution, the public school in Lunenburg is closed today. Local organizations are implementing contingency plans as appropriate.

There is currently no immediate risk to public safety.

Should municipal water service be temporarily disrupted, community support measures will be activated to assist customers connected to the Town of Lunenburg municipal water system.
