A SPSA Fire Ban covering the southern half of the province is now showing up on the provincial site. I can't find anything on the SPSA site about it just yet, but I'm guessing we'll get more information soon.

An SPSA fire ban includes Provincial Forests including Provincial Parks as well as within the District (a single incorporated municipality within the NSAD), including, but not limited to, resort subdivisions, northern settlements, and titled and leased properties within the fire ban area.

The ban covers all provincial parks in the province except for Lac La Ronge Provincial and Meadow Lake Provincial Parks.

It's crazy windy and hot out there right now, stay safe everyone!

Much of the province is under a heatwave, with strong winds and extreme fire danger levels. Fires can start easily and spread fast in these conditions.

🚫 This is your reminder not to burn during windy or dry conditions. A small spark can travel long distances and ignite dry grass or brush within seconds.

🔥 Conditions can change quickly, even if things seem safe. Always check the weather and local fire restrictions before starting a fire.

Let’s enjoy the outdoors responsibly.

Happy International Firefighters Day!

Our team is proud and committed to protect lives, property, and communities. They put in the time for training and responding to calls, sacrificing time with their families, friends and often cancel plans.

We also recognize and honour the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of firefighters across Saskatchewan , Canada, and around the world.

If you see a Craven Firefighter or any firefighter, give them a handshake or a pat on the back.

Fire Risk - Monday, May 4th

For this year's fire season, we're going try to keep you all up to date on the current risk by sharing the Public Safety Agency's daily maps. These maps use the Fire Weather Index, which accounts for weather conditions along with the moisture of the various available fuels

It's worth noting that these maps may not be the easiest to understand because they only have the regional municipalities outlined and numbered. This could make finding your location difficult so to make things easier, we've created an overlay of several cities to start and we can certainly add more.

Looking at today's map, the majority of Central and Southern Saskatchewan is either at High or Extreme risk. The main reason behind this a concept known as spring dip. This time of year is particularly dangerous for wildfires because of the dead vegetation leftover from last year is extremely dry and this year's foliage hasn't fully flushed yet,

Please make sure to follow any fire restrictions in your area and stay safe!

On May 1, 2026 at 15:49, Craven Fire responded to a grass fire east of town. It was originally called in as a control burn, which was the correct action for the land owner to do. However, the wind changed direction causing the fire to become out of control. The team was able to contain the fire quickly, receiving some additional help from the neighbours. No injuries or loss of structures to report. CFD was back in service by 20:00.

Craven Fire Department received a call of a grass fire east of town. Prior to leaving, it was determined it was control burn that was called in and the team was directed to stand down. This is good practice to avoid unnecessary callouts. To call in any control burns, call 1-866-404-4911. You will be asked for:
Your Land Location
Your RM Number
Your Fire Service Provider
Location Details
What are you burning?
How long will your burn last?
Your name and phone number
You will be asked to call back once the burn has been completed.
