Hazelden Manor

Hazelden Manor Hazelden Manor is a beautiful stone and shingle house in London, Ontario, Canada, built in 1892 Hazelden was the summer home of Colonel John W. Little (b. Little.

Montreal, Quebec 1848) moved to London in 1875 and became a partner with his uncle in Robinson, Little and Company Drygoods. The Little home was at 245 Dufferin Avenue (now the site of London Life). He was an influential figure in the business and community life of London. He was the mayor of the city in 1895, 1896 and 1897; President of several local firms including the Huron and Erie Mortgage Co

mpany; a member of the Board of the Water Commissioners (1898-1903); and Lieutenant Colonel of the Seventh Regiment, Canadian Fusiliers. He was also active in the reorganization of the University of Western Ontario in 1908. He died at Hazelden in 1913. Arthur T. Montreal, Quebec 1875) was the eldest son of John W. He carried on with the family business and was director of several local firms. He took over the operation of Hazelden in 1927 and is responsible for the renovations of 1928. Hazelden became the Little Family's permanent residence after the renovations were completed. He was keenly interested in the University of Western Ontario. He served on the Board of Governors for 41 years, and acted as chairman for 35 years. He received an honourary degree of Doctor of Laws from the University in a ceremony held at Hazelden in 1949. He died in 1958. Arthur Little's son Frank Little took possession of the property after his father's death and subdivided the property into what is now the Old Hazelden Neighborhood off Riverside Drive and Hartson Drive in west London. He left Hazelden intact and put it up for sale. It had 5 previous owners before we bought it in 1990. We have spent our time lovingly restoring it to it's previous glory. We added to the property in 2007 when we bought the property next door which became our garage and guest house. We still have a lot of work to do and always have a project on the go. We hope you enjoy reading about the history and watching as we continue to restore this lovely historical home.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. From our family to yours, Happy New Year!
