Every year, one image gets to carry the weight of a movement. For 2026, that image belongs to Los Angeles artist Miles Wintner β€” a flower made of Earth, held in human hands. Tender, bold, and alive. He calls it the Earthflower: a reminder that flowers are not decoration, they are connection, linking birds, insects, and humans in the same quiet act of care.

The world is in all of our hands. It always has been.

World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, is an annual United Nations Observance focusing on the importance of fresh water.

World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.1 billion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

Every year, UN-Water β€” the UN’s coordination mechanism on water and sanitation β€” sets the theme for World Water Day. In 2026, the theme is Water and Gender.

The global water crisis affects everyone – but not equally.

Where people lack the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation, inequalities flourish, with women and girls bearing the brunt.

This World Water Day, it’s time to centre women and girls in water solutions.

Because where water flows, equality grows.

At the March 5, 2026, meeting, the Board of Management for the Lake Huron Water Supply Systems has awarded the construction of the 21-kilometer transmission pipeline to L82 Construction Ltd. The $23.5 million award of the construction contract marks a significant milestone in connecting the Oneida Nation of the Thames to the Lake Huron Water Supply System and a long-term partnership with the First Nation.

"The Lake Huron water system is very pleased to be a part of this initiative led by the Oneida Nation of the Thames" says Board Vice-Chair Colin Grantham. "This is a journey that is a longtime coming and we're grateful to be a part of it with the Nation."
