Sintra, Óbidos, Alcobaça and Nazaré

After our walking tour in Lisbon we ventured to Sintra. It’s a very popular place filled with castles and other POI’s. We were warned the line ups were hours long but we were able to take in the. the National Palace. Unfortunately the fog rolled in so we didn’t get the full experience of this magical place. We’ll just have to go back.

We left Lisbon the next day after we picked up our rental car. Our first stop was Óbidos, a quaint village surrounded by walls built in the 1300’s. I wandered around the ramparts while Jim watched from below.

Next stop Alcobaça and the Mosteiro de Alcobaça, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to 1178. It took almost a hundred years to build. It’s hard not to feel small within the enormity of this place.

Nazarè is an ocean side town known for its 100 foot waves. We enjoyed a quick round of beachcombing before caring onto Porto. Our next stop for a couple of days.

I think these rainy days are preparing us for fall, which as it turns out is my favourite season. So in honour of this I’ve taken 20% off of my linen wraps starting at noon today. Don’t miss out on being wrapped in naturally dyed soft linen for fall as there are only seven being offered and they are all one of a kind. Check out my website to see all of them.

When designing, I quite often use the Fibonacci Sequence. It’s a series of numbers that are also quite often found in nature.

On a recent trip to Winnipeg, I found myself trying to figure out the repeat of the design on our hotel, while enjoying Cibo’s patio. (Yes, that is where my brain goes…🤷‍♀️) I’m not sure if I ever realized the repeat but I did notice the Fibonacci pattern. Whether it was the number of coloured poles or the size of them, it was definitely Fibonacci.

If ever in Winnipeg, the Waterfront is a neat area to check out. Lots of great architecture mixing old with new. Including the which also has delicious food.

At the end of each warp, I always take a moment before removing the cloth that has wound onto the beam. Honestly, it still amazes me after all these years that I’ve made this cloth with my own two hands. This week, that cloth has been washed, dried, trimmed and pressed. Soon to be cut apart, hemmed and tagged to become the towels that you’ve grown to love.

And I quote “You’ve really turned me into a towel snob” BJK. ❤️

Put off the inevitable for long enough….installing more heddles to 14 shafts. A tedious job but also freeing after designing drafts with limited heddles. Let the fun begin for the first warp of 2024.

Happy belated New Year everyone!

The latest off the loom….A blanket made for a special couple. And like all the blankets, love, honesty, respect, patience and understanding are intentions woven into each one.
