I chose to become a doulaāand I donāt have children of my own.
For a long time, I wondered whether people would see that as something I was missing. Whether they would question how I could understand birth, postpartum, parenthood, or loss without having personally travelled those exact paths.
But being a doula isnāt about centring my own experiences.
Itās about making space for yours.
My role isnāt to assume I know exactly how you feel because something similar happened to me. Itās to listen deeply, learn what matters to you, and support you without placing my own story over yours.
I chose this work because I have always felt drawn to lifeās thresholdsāthe moments that change us, ask something of us, and divide our lives into a before and an after.
Birth. Loss. Becoming. Grief. Dying. Rebirth.
I may not be a mother, but I am a nurturer. A witness. An advocate. A steady hand in uncertain moments. I have invested in education, experience, reflection, and the ongoing work of becoming someone others can feel safe with.
My worth as a doula isnāt measured by whether I have given birth.
Itās measured by how I show up.
With curiosity instead of assumptions.
With compassion instead of judgment.
With knowledge, intuition, and respect.
With the understanding that your experience belongs to youānot to me.
I didnāt choose doula work because I believed I had lived every story.
I chose it because I wanted to honour the people living theirs. š¤āØ
