🔥 Increase Risk of Fire Conditions: Understanding “Crossover” Fire Behavior 🔥

When the temperature climbs above 30°C, wind speeds increase, and relative humidity drops below 30%, wildfire conditions can rapidly become dangerous. This is often referred to as “crossover” fire behavior — a point where heat, wind, and dry air combine to create fast-moving, aggressive fire activity.

During the next few days Humboldt will be under crossover conditions, fires can:
🔥 Spread extremely quickly
🔥 Change direction unexpectedly
🔥 Produce intense heat and long-range spotting
🔥 Become difficult to control in a short amount of time

Even a small spark from equipment, vehicles, campfires, burning debris, or ci******es can lead to a serious wildfire.

⚠️ During these conditions:
• Avoid unnecessary outdoor burning
• Use extreme caution with equipment that creates sparks
• Properly extinguish ci******es and campfires
• Keep water and firefighting tools nearby
• Report smoke or fire immediately

One careless moment can have devastating consequences for crops, pasture, homes, and communities.

Stay alert. Stay prepared. Help prevent wildfires. 🔥

Humboldt & District EMS – EMS Week (May 17–26, 2026)
Improving Outcomes, Together

During EMS Week, we recognize the dedicated people of Humboldt & District Ambulance - EMS —those who show up day and night when someone’s worst moment becomes their most critical need for care.

Every EMS clinician carries one call with them forever—not for its heroism, but for its humanity. A child whose breathing finally stabilized. A grandmother whose hand was held until her family arrived. A stranger who, despite fear and pain in their eyes, chose to trust them in a moment of uncertainty.

These moments seldom make headlines, yet they shape outcomes in ways that statistics alone cannot capture. They are the reason people return home, families remain united, and communities feel safer knowing help is never far away.

This EMS Week, we recognize that improving outcomes is never done alone. It happens through teamwork, trust, training, and compassion—together.

Thank you to every member of Humboldt & District Ambulance - EMS for the care you provide and the difference you make in every call, every day.

🔥 Planning a Controlled Burn? Know Before You Burn. 🔥

Spring cleanup often means burning brush, grass, or debris—but before you strike a match, make sure you’re doing it safely and legally.

Controlled burns can be reported any time of year 24/7 from anywhere in the province by calling 1-866-404-4911. You will be asked for:

Your Land Location
Your RM Number
Your Fire Service Provider
Location Details
What are you burning?
How long will your burn last?
Your name and phone number
You will be asked to call back once the burn has been completed.

Before you burn you should:
âś… Check for local and provincial fire bans
âś… Monitor weather conditions closely
âś… Have water and firefighting tools ready
âś… Stay with the fire until it is completely extinguished

Reporting your controlled burn helps prevent unnecessary emergency responses and ensures firefighters are available for true emergencies.

⚠️ Failure to notify authorities could result in fire department dispatch and possible charges if the burn gets out of control.

Let’s work together to keep our communities safe this spring. 🚒🌾

🚨 Canada Road Safety Week | May 12–18, 2026 🚨

We are proud to support Canada Road Safety Week, a national campaign led by Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police focused on making our roads safer for everyone.

Regularly, we respond to preventable collisions—many caused by impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, or not wearing a seatbelt. These aren’t just statistics to us—they’re our friends, families, and neighbors.

This week is a reminder that road safety is a shared responsibility:
đźš— Slow down and drive to conditions
📵 Put the phone away
đźš« Never drive impaired
🔒 Buckle up—every trip, every time
🚸 Watch for pedestrians and cyclists

One safe choice behind the wheel can make all the difference.

From all of us at your local fire department—we’d rather see you at a community event than at an emergency scene.

đźšś Seeding season is here! đźšś

With the tractors heading out, our roads—especially the gravel ones—are about to get a lot busier. If you’re out driving, please keep these tips in mind to keep everyone safe:
🌾 Give 'em Space: Farm machinery is wide and heavy. If you see them coming, slow down and pull over to a safe spot to let them pass.
🌾 Dust & Visibility: On gravel, dust can make it nearly impossible to see oncoming traffic or the size of the equipment ahead. Be patient and stay back until the air clears.
🌾 Wait till it is safe to pass: Don't rush to pass. It’s hard for operators to see you, and they’ll pull over as soon as there’s a safe approach or wide spot.

A little extra patience ensures our farmers and your families all get home safe tonight. Let's have a safe and productive season!

🚨 Emergency Preparedness Week 2026 🚨

Emergencies can happen anytime — wildfires, severe storms, power outages, or medical situations. Being prepared isn’t just important, it can make all the difference for you, your family, and your community.

This week is a reminder to take a few simple steps:
✔️ Build or update your emergency kit (aim for at least 72 hours)
✔️ Make a family emergency plan — know how to contact each other and where to meet
✔️ Stay informed about risks in our area
✔️ Check in on neighbours, especially those who may need extra help

Preparedness isn’t about fear — it’s about confidence and readiness.

From all of us at your local fire department, we encourage everyone to take a few minutes this week to get prepared. When we’re ready as individuals, we’re stronger as a community.

May 4th marks International Firefighters’ Day, a day rooted in the legacy of St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters. Known as one of the first commanders of a firefighting unit in the Roman Empire, St. Florian gave his life—alongside his fellow firefighters—while standing for the same values that continue to guide the fire service today: courage, service, and commitment to others.

Here at Humboldt Fire Department, this day holds special meaning as we recognize the dedication of our volunteer members. Our firefighters give countless hours—balancing family, careers, and personal commitments—to serve and protect our community. Whether it’s responding to emergencies at all hours, training, or supporting one another, their commitment does not go unnoticed.

Firefighting is built on selflessness. It’s a role that carries risk, sacrifice, and an unwavering sense of duty. Today, we pause to honour not only those currently serving, but also those who have come before us.

To all our volunteers—past and present—thank you. Your dedication helps keep Humboldt safe, and your service represents the very best of our community.
