Carney’s Davos speech landed one big truth: “we are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition.” If that’s the world we’re in, then climate action isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s national security and economic survival.

Strategic autonomy shouldn’t mean digging in deeper on yesterday’s energy. It should mean building the stuff that actually protects people:

1) a cleaner, stronger grid

2) home energy retrofits that cut bills

3) Canadian-made clean tech and materials

4) supply chains that don’t collapse every time the world gets messy

And yes, “nostalgia is not a strategy.” That applies to fossil-fuel wishful thinking too.

If Canada wants to be resilient, we have to be serious: cut pollution, build clean power, and make sure communities are ready for floods, fires, and storms — with good jobs attached. That’s the “principled and pragmatic” path I want us on.

Canada has the longest coastline in the world. But right now, we don’t have the laws in place to protect it.

A new report from East Coast Environmental Law highlights a critical gap: while provinces like Nova Scotia have passed legislation like the Coastal Protection Act, they haven’t followed through with enforcement. Meanwhile, the risks—erosion, flooding, rising seas—keep growing.

Other places like California, New Zealand, and even Maine have had coordinated, enforceable coastal protections for years. They combine clear legal standards with local implementation and meaningful public access. We can—and must—do the same here.

Protecting the coast isn’t just an environmental issue—it’s about community, climate resilience, and future generations. And it requires all of us: communities, governments, Indigenous leaders, and advocates.

We provide public-interest environmental law services throughout Atlantic Canada to advance our vision for a future in which laws and legal systems protect ecological health and promote environmental and climate justice.

🌱💚 Thank You, South Shore–St. Margaret’s 💚🌱

As this campaign comes to a close, I want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported and believed in this journey.

To the incredible volunteers who gave your time, energy, and passion—you are the heartbeat of this campaign. Every sign delivered, door knocked, and conversation started helped build something special.

To the voters who chose to stand up for bold ideas—for climate action, health equity, and economic fairness—thank you for believing in a better future.

We may not have won the seat, but we’ve grown a movement. And that matters. We showed that people here care deeply about our communities and our planet, and that we’re ready for real change.

This isn’t the end—it’s a beginning. Let’s keep working together to build a fairer, greener future for everyone. 💪🌍

With gratitude and hope,
Mark Embrett

Curious how the major parties stack up on economic growth and policy? Take a look at this chart — and notice something important: the Green Party supports bold, forward-thinking policies like a national power grid, a civil defence corps, and expanding both $10/day childcare and federal dental care.

Meanwhile, we stand firm against pre-approving more pipelines and gutting public regulation. Climate leadership and economic justice aren’t opposing ideas — they’re part of the same plan. 🌱

The Green Party’s vision isn’t about protecting the status quo — it’s about building what’s next.

I was honored to attend last nights Candidate Forum in Bridgewater, hosted by Chamber of Commerce. We shared some great ideas about the future possibilities of South Shore St. Margaret's Bay and I may have even converted a few!!

Everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home — whether you live in Bridgewater, Lunenburg, Yarmouth, or Shelburne.

The Green Party’s plan finally puts rural communities first:
✅ A Rural Housing Fund designed for small towns
✅ Easier access to federal support — no more being left out
✅ Building co-ops, land trusts, and affordable homes — not luxury condos

Housing isn't just a big-city crisis.

It’s our crisis too. And we have the solutions to fix it — with rural Nova Scotia leading the way.

Change is possible — if we’re brave enough to vote for it.

Our Green Party platform isn’t just about tweaking the system. It’s about transforming it — from the ground up.
We believe that housing, health care, education, clean energy, and a livable income should be rights, not privileges.

✅ Affordable housing for every community — urban AND rural.
✅ A real plan to transition away from fossil fuels — creating thousands of good green jobs.
✅ Protecting family farms, fisheries, and local businesses from corporate takeovers.
✅ Expanding rural broadband and building 21st-century infrastructure.
✅ Real action on climate change — because the cost of waiting is too high.
✅ Justice, equity, and dignity for every Canadian — no exceptions.

This isn’t a platform of empty slogans.
It’s a blueprint for a better Canada — fairer, greener, and stronger.

If you’re tired of being told to settle for less — this platform is for you.

It’s time to choose hope. It’s time to choose action.
It’s time to Vote Green. 🌱

The Green Party of Canada stands with our municipal leaders.

Canada’s big-city mayors are right: we need a real partnership between the federal government and municipalities—especially when it comes to housing, transit, and climate resilience.

Local governments are on the front lines of today’s biggest challenges, but they’re often left without the resources or authority to address them. Greens have long advocated for a bold new approach: one that decentralizes power, reinvests in our communities, and puts people—not profits—at the heart of decision-making.

We support: ✅ A dedicated and permanent federal funding stream for affordable, non-market housing. ✅ Empowering cities to expand public transit and reduce climate emissions. ✅ Respecting Indigenous leadership and investing in inclusive, just communities.

It’s time to end the political ping-pong and give local leaders the tools they need. Let’s build a Canada that works for everyone, from the ground up.

Municipal politicians across Canada have written a letter to the five main federal party leaders calling for climate-related actions they say would improve the country's resilience to environmental calamities.

I’m honoured to be featured alongside the other candidates in the South Shore–St. Margaret’s riding in this new profile piece from the South Shore Bulletin.

As your Green Party candidate, I’m running because I believe we can build a future rooted in fairness, sustainability, and care for one another. That means tackling the housing crisis with real solutions like co-op housing, protecting our natural resources through economic sovereignty, and ensuring working Canadians get the break they deserve—with no federal tax on earnings under $40,000.

I’m not a career politician. I’m a health policy researcher, a father, and a neighbour who’s tired of seeing our communities left behind while the same old parties protect corporate interests.

Let’s do politics differently. Let’s put people and planet first.

Workers are the backbone of our economy—and they deserve better.

The Canadian Labour Congress just released a bold platform that speaks to what millions of Canadians already know: our system is rigged for the wealthy, while working families are left behind.

The Green Party stands with workers and supports their demands for:

✅ Universal Pharmacare and Dental Care
✅ One million affordable homes
✅ Real action on corporate greed and price gouging
✅ Fair taxes on the ultra-rich
✅ A just transition that puts workers and communities first

We believe in a future where every Canadian has what they need to live with dignity—not just survive.

Let’s build that future together. 🌱💚
