SW Outdoor Rink - so far it's very popular and some kids are pulling off a full 8 hour shift on the ice! This is fantastic! But ... with a new thing, comes a learning curve.

1. Please do not climb the fence if the gates are locked. The gates will only be locked because of maintenance, so please let our crews do their job and allow time for the ice to freeze. Yes - even if the crew is not there, there is a reason it is locked.

2. Please do not chip holes in the ice - shouldn't have to say this one, but the attached picture says we do.

3. Please be patient while we go through the learning curve as to how to best manage participants on the ice.

4. Hockey Players - please move the nets to half ice play if recreational or figure skaters show up.

We all have to work together to manage this rink for the enjoyment of everyone. Weather is now better for making ice and crews are hard at it today to repair the damage and get it ready for the weekend.

Have Fun!!

Congratulations to all the successful candidates. It has been a great experience and opened my eyes to another side of municipal government. I wish you all the best in the next term.

We are happy to announce the following preliminary results of the 2025 Municipal Election and congratulate Mayor Craig Snodgrass and the following Councillors: Jamie Barton, Garth Brookwell, Cathy Couey, Jenny Jones, Vicky McGonigle and Michael Nychyk. Further details, including the number of votes each candidate received, will be released soon. Thank you for voting, High River!

I know lots are working and will hit the polls later. Let's blow this up and get out there.

As we are getting close to the final day of voting and the end of the campaign trail. I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for their support and share a few thoughts. It has been an exciting experience, and I have had some fantastic conversations with people I may never have met otherwise. What I would like to say is whether you are voting for me or one of the other candidates that have been brave enough to put their names forward, remember these couple things; The loudest voice is not always the best option, take time and listen to what is being said and more importantly how it is being said. There is a lot more to our community than just one intersection, one residential lot, or one pool expansion I feel our focus needs to be on moving forward, finding solutions, and laying a foundation for progress and meaningful change. I recently had a conversation with a friend and local property owner who made a great point, one that I think is sometimes overlooked when we're making our choices at the polling station. They said we are not just selecting the candidates we like but are trying to select a group of people that can work together. I know that may seem obvious to some, but at a time when so many seem to be looking for change, it’s important that we don’t lose focus on the need for cohesion and teamwork from our leadership. I, for one, do not want to see a Mayor and Council that spend the next four years arguing and debating. We need a team that can collaborate, listen, and compromise, focusing on making the best decisions for our community. With that, I leave you with the following that have been the foundation of my campaign.

Organizational Support
I truly believe that our town’s greatest strength is its people. They are the backbone of our community. When they feel supported, encouraged, and valued, they are empowered to do their best work. That means better services, stronger relationships, and a community that runs with compassion and dedication. I’m committed to creating an environment where staff feel that their contributions matter and their voices are heard.

Infrastructure
Infrastructure may not always be the most visible issue, but it's one of the most important. From clean water to safe roads and reliable facilities, these are the systems we all rely on daily. I believe we need to take care of what we already have before expanding into new projects. This is about using taxpayer dollars wisely and planning for the long term. With thoughtful investment and sustainable management, we can ensure that our infrastructure continues to serve us well today and for generations to come.

Local Economy
A strong local economy touches everything, from job opportunities to the cost of living. I want to see High River thrive by supporting local businesses, encouraging new investment in our commercial and industrial areas, and continuing to revitalize our downtown core. These efforts not only create jobs but also help build a more resilient and self-sustaining community. When our local economy is strong, everyone benefits.

Local Youth
I care deeply about the future of our young people. As a parent of four children who are now stepping into adulthood, I understand how important it is to create opportunities that help them thrive. Supporting youth programs truly makes a difference. These initiatives give young people the chance to develop practical skills, build meaningful connections, and feel a strong sense of belonging in their community. I want every young person in High River to see a future for themselves right here in a place where they can grow, contribute, and succeed.

Again. Nothing flashy, nothing romantic, just back to basics politics. We can not have a strong tomorrow without a strong today.

Lastly, get your young people out and help them understand the importance of educated voting. Voting is one of the easiest ways to have a say in your community, province and country.
