The Heart’s Content Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched earlier tonight to a minor multiple motor vehicle collision on the Heart’s Content Barrens.

Members responded and assisted at the scene alongside other emergency responders from NL Health Services and the RCMP. The incident has now been cleared, and all units have safely returned to the station and are back in service.

The collision occurred after motorists encountered a moose on the roadway, highlighting the importance of remaining alert for wildlife while travelling, especially during the evening and nighttime hours. We encourage all motorists to reduce speed when necessary and to exercise caution while travelling.

Immediately after returning from one emergency call, the Heart's Content Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for the second time today to a reported structure fire in Heart’s Desire.

Upon arrival on scene, firefighters located a fire in the kitchen and attic area of the home. Crews ventilated the structure and began an interior attack on the fire until the Heart’s Delight-Islington Volunteer Fire Dept. arrived on scene, at which time command of the incident was handed over to them.

The fire has since been extinguished and there were no injuries reported.

With the current dry conditions, today’s incidents are a reminder of how quickly fires can spread, even this time of year. We ask everyone to please use caution and be mindful of potential fire hazards.

All Heart’s Content units have since returned home safely and are back at the station and back in service.

Earlier this afternoon the Heart's Content Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call for a vehicle fire in a ditch in Winterton. The fire had extended into the surrounding wooded area.

At the time of the call, the Winterton Fire Department was already committed to another incident, so our department responded to provide assistance.

The fire was brought under control, and there were no injuries reported.

All units have since returned to the station and are back in service.

With the current dry conditions, this incident is a reminder of how quickly fire can spread, even this time of year. We ask everyone to use caution when outdoors and be mindful of any potential fire hazards.

🚫 FIRE BAN NOTICE 🚫

Effective immediately, a fire ban is now in place for the Town of Heart's Content and the Town of New Perlican.

Due to several recent close calls involving brush fires in neighbouring communities, we feel it is necessary to take proactive measures to protect our towns and surrounding areas.

Only propane fireplaces will be permitted during this time.
All open fires, including brush burning and recreational fires, are strictly prohibited until further notice.

If anyone needs to burn brush or garbage, you must apply for a burn permit through NL Forestry, and must follow all regulations and conditions outlined in that permit.

We understand this may be an inconvenience, but the safety of our communities must come first. We have seen firsthand how quickly a situation can escalate, and we do not want to face another event like we did last summer.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding as we work to prevent a potentially serious situation.

Our members responded to a structure fire involving a vacant residential property in New Perlican this morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters found one side of the interior of the home well involved, with the fire believed to have originated from an electrical source running into the house. Crews immediately began attacking the fire from the exterior to knock down as much of the flames as possible, while remaining outside until Newfoundland Power arrived on scene to safely disconnect the electrical supply.

Once power was secured, firefighters made entry and brought the remaining fire under control. The scene was then overhauled to ensure all hot spots were extinguished, and the structure was monitored for a period of time before crews cleared.

No injuries were reported.

We would like to thank Newfoundland Power for their response and assistance, as well as all responding members for their efforts in safely managing this incident.
All units have since returned to the fire hall and are back in service.

We are proud to share that the Heart's Content Volunteer Fire Department has received a GlobalMedic Fire Skid Unit through a partnership between GlobalMedic and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to GlobalMedic, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and our MHA Riley Balsom, MHA for Carbonear-Trinity-Bay de Verde, along with everyone involved in making this program possible. Your support of volunteer fire departments is greatly appreciated.

This new skid unit will significantly enhance our ability to respond to brush fires, wildland incidents, and emergencies in hard-to-reach areas, allowing us to operate more effectively and safely while protecting our communities and supporting neighbouring departments when needed.

This is a great addition to our department, and we are very grateful for the opportunity.

🚨Thank you for supporting volunteer firefighters!🚨
