Ever wonder what's behind the price at the pump? There are many factors at play, including:

🌍 world events, like wars, severe weather, and oil refinery shutdowns
🛢️ the average daily price of refined gasoline on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX)
💵 the Canada-US exchange rate
💸 costs added to correct past differences between the expected and actual price of gas
🚚 transportation costs to move gas into and around Nova Scotia
⛽️ wholesaler and retail mark-ups

The Nova Scotia Energy Board has issued an interim order under Section 24A of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulations, changing the way it calculates the amount of the clean fuel adjustor, a regulated surcharge added to the price of gasoline and diesel at the pump.

This change in methodology will be incorporated into the Board’s weekly setting of gas and diesel prices as of 12:01 a.m. on July 3, 2026. It will remain in effect until the Board completes a full investigation into its process for calculating the clean fuel adjustor and issues a further order.

REMINDER ⏰ There is one week left to submit comments for and/or request to speak at the Board’s hearing on the reasonableness of NS Power’s actions before, during, and after the cybersecurity incident discovered in April 2025.

Issues to be considered as part of the hearing include:
🔹 the collection and retention of customer information
🔹 measures implemented to mitigate risk to customers from fraud and identity theft
🔹 billing accuracy and estimations
🔹 customer communications
🔹 other business and regulatory impacts

📬 The deadline to submit comments is July 8, 2026.
🗓️ The hearing is open to the public and will begin at 9 a.m. on August 18, 2026.

The Nova Scotia Energy Board is responsible for setting fuel prices under the Petroleum Products Pricing Act and regulations. The Board sets minimum prices for fuel sold at full- and self-service stations, and the maximum price for fuel sold at self-service stations.

Tune in at 9 a.m. today for the public hearing on Eastward Energy's application to adjust its rates for delivering natural gas.

The utility is proposing to increase delivery rates for residential customers by 7% in 2027, 8% in 2028, and 9% in 2029. There are no changes proposed to rates for commercial and industrial customers over the three-year period.

In Nova Scotia, the price you pay at the pump depends on where you're filling up. ⛽ There are six price zones to allow for variations in transportation costs. Retail and wholesale prices for each zone are set weekly by the Energy Board.
