A day in the beautiful Valley in perfect weather to support folks who rallied for LIBRARIES!

Don’t we all have a library story?
- first kiss
- A place you met other new parents
- Where you wrote you first book
- Space you feel like you belong

This week 5 libraries announced they would be closing in the Annapolis Valley, after years of under funding from the Houston government.

Wednesday, Claudia Chender, Sue Leblanc and Krista Gallagher will gather again in Kentville to talk to community about these important 3rd spaces.

Real change happens when people don’t fit the mold, but rather bring their whole selves into spaces they occupy.

For women. For 2SLGBTQIA+ people. For anyone who has ever wondered whether a room, a career, or a leadership role was meant for someone like them.

Because when people can see themselves in leadership, they can begin to imagine themselves there too.

Small businesses are the heart of our communities.
But right now, too many owners are asking if it’s even worth it anymore.

When 55% say they wouldn’t recommend starting a business right now, we should all be paying attention.

From rural Nova Scotia to the world, has been putting our Nova Scotia maple on the map. 🍁

In Halifax Chebucto we have MANY published authors (we’re so lucky). ❤️

Asking about the cruel funding cuts to Nova Scotia publishing was important to me, and I really wanted an answer… The program was cut by $700k.

Instead, the Minister of Economic Growth & Development quoted a program that ended in February and cost the government just under $50k.

How are we the only province in the country not supporting publishers?

Such an honor to be a member of Public Bills Committee. I love when folks tell me about their lives and lived experiences and I appreciate when folks make time to come to Halifax, to One Government Place, to share.

We heard a lot of emotional testimony. Well prepared, beautiful creative stories. Many of them, I will never forget.

I will also never forget government members who were silent. Or government members who turned Public Bills into an opportunity to debate Nova Scotians.

These cuts are cruel. And they will affect Nova Scotians lives. I was honoured to sit at the table, and give space for stories and experience shares.

Thank you Nova Scotia. You did wonderful work!

Democracy isn’t a spectator sport! Here’s what to expect at Public Bills Committee!

Financial Measures Act is Bill 198, (contrary to what’s said in the video)
