When Ottawa hands you a new law with a noble title, you ought to check what is hidden behind the curtain.

Bill C-25 is framed as protecting our elections, but behind the catchy slogan is expanded year-round government oversight, restrictions on independent candidates, and broader power for bureaucrats to referee political debate.

You do not protect democracy by handing politicians and bureaucrats more control over who gets to speak and who gets to run. Real protection comes from trusting citizens to make up their own minds.

“But the census helps determine funding for a number of social programs” or “It helps the government”

Libertarians are not against helping people. We believe help is often better, more accountable, and more compassionate when it comes from families, communities, charities, churches, non-profits, and local businesses rather than distant government departments.

The libertarian position is that government should return to its proper limits. Lower taxes mean people keep more of what they earn, and with that comes both freedom and responsibility. One person may choose to support one cause, while their neighbour may choose another. That is not a weakness of freedom. That is the point of freedom.

People should not be forced through taxation to fund every program or special interest selected by politicians. They should be free to support the organizations and community efforts they believe actually do the most good.

You do not have to agree with us. One of the strengths of libertarian philosophy is that disagreement is not treated as a threat. A healthy democracy needs debate, opposition, and balance.

That is why the number of MPs crossing the floor to join the Liberal government is such a serious concern. Canadians elected a minority Parliament. They did not vote to hand the Carney Liberals an effective majority through post-election floor-crossing. Whether legal or not, it changes the balance voters chose.

Opposition is not the enemy. It is supposed to be a check on government power. When that check is weakened, Canadians lose accountability.

From a libertarian perspective, this is exactly why concentrated power is dangerous. Canada needs less centralization, more accountability, and a Parliament that respects the voters’ decision, even when those voters disagree with the government.

The census is also forcing people to complete work without any remuneration; volunteering should be a choice.

The Federal census is a waste of time and money.

The 2021 census cost an estimated $700 million with no evidence we ever even broke even on that cost.

True government efficiency is making the government smaller, not more costs and bureaucracy.

Gas prices are not just about the price of oil.

Here in Northern Ontario, every trip to the pump hits a little harder because driving is not optional for most families. We drive farther for work, groceries, school, medical appointments, family visits, and basic services.

The price at the pump is made up of several layers:

Global oil prices.
Refining costs.
Transportation and delivery.
Retail margins.
And taxes.

In Ontario, the normal tax breakdown on gasoline includes:

Ontario gasoline tax: 9¢/L
Federal fuel excise tax: 10¢/L
Federal consumer carbon fuel charge: 0¢/L since April 1, 2025
HST: 13% on the final pump price

There is currently a temporary federal excise tax break, but without it, the normal tax load is even higher. And because HST is charged as a percentage, when gas prices rise, the tax collected rises too.

For Northern families, fuel is not a luxury. It is a cost-of-living issue.

When fuel costs rise, everything else follows. Groceries cost more. Deliveries cost more. Small businesses pay more. Contractors, farmers, seniors, commuters, and working families all feel it.

We need a government that understands Northern Ontario. We need less punishment for driving, fewer barriers to Canadian energy, more competition, and a serious plan to make life affordable again.

Simple reason. Real affordability. Respect for Northern families.

One year ago, on April 28, 2025, Canadians went to the polls.

Now, one year later, it is fair to ask a simple question:

Are we happy with what we chose?

Are families better off at the grocery store?
Are gas prices easier to manage?
Are taxes and fees lighter?
Are health-care wait times shorter?
Are major projects moving faster?
Is government smaller, simpler, and more accountable?

For too long, Canadians have been told that we must vote “strategically,” vote out of fear, or vote only to block someone else. But that kind of politics has not solved the problem. It has protected the status quo.

And the status quo is getting expensive.

We do not have to keep going this way. Canada is not broken because Canadians are weak. Canada is struggling because too much power has been taken away from families, workers, entrepreneurs, communities, and local decision-makers.

With simple reason, personal responsibility, lower taxes, less red tape, and more freedom, we can rebuild this nation together.

If you are tired, if you are overtaxed, if you feel held back, or if you simply believe Canada can do better, consider joining the Libertarian Party of Canada.

Taxation isn't charity, neither is Inflation, neither is Debt.

While our money is wasted on bureaucracy, virtue signalling, and corporate welfare, Charities and Mutual aid societies starve.

Canadians are suffering and other Canadians don't have the money to help them.

Lower taxes, more cooperation.

Inflation is often treated like an accident, something that just happens.

But inflation is the result of choices made in Ottawa.

When governments spend far beyond their means, they borrow and create money. That doesn’t create real wealth. It quietly reduces the value of every dollar Canadians have already earned. As Thomas Sowell warned, inflation becomes a hidden tax—one that hits the most vulnerable first.

In Northern Ontario, inflation hurts more and lasts longer.

We drive farther for work, groceries, and medical care. Fuel costs ripple through everything from food prices to home heating. When inflation rises, there is no “urban alternative” here. You can’t just take transit instead of driving, or shop around at ten different stores. Costs go up, and people are forced to absorb them.

Seniors feel this immediately. Fixed incomes don’t rise with inflation, but groceries, prescriptions, and utilities do. A lifetime of savings is quietly eroded, month after month, through no fault of their own.

Those who truly need help, including Canadians relying on disability support services, are hit even harder. Benefits are slow to adjust; if they adjust at all. Real-world costs rise quickly. Inflation doesn’t just strain budgets; it strips dignity from people who are already navigating serious challenges. This is why seniors are choosing between rent and food, why food banks (which still have to pay HST on all their purchases) are waiting lists longer than exclusive restaurants.

This is the painful irony:
Big government spending, sold as “compassion,” often ends up harming the very people it claims to protect. How many times have we been told we to help others, it’s the Canadian way; yet helping Canadians seems to never be a priority.

A smaller, more focused government helps prevent inflation by living within its means. When government concentrates on core services—basic infrastructure, courts, and essential public needs; reduces debt, limits money creation, and protects the purchasing power of every Canadian dollar.

Real compassion isn’t endless spending.
Real compassion is stability, honesty, and respect for the value of people’s work and savings. Real compassion will flow from the people helping each other when they too are able keep their heads above water.

In Sudbury East – Manitoulin – Nickel Belt, we don’t need bigger promises. We need responsible governance that understands the country and the unique challenges we face in the North and doesn’t gamble with our future.

The start of the solution isn’t Red or Blue, it’s not orange or light-blue, it’s not green or purple and it’s not even yellow. The start of solution is you voting for what you believe in, not voting to block, not voting “strategically.” These are all wonderful lies invented to keep only one or two groups in power. This beautiful nation is far too diverse for only red or blue. There is no such thing as a wasted vote. It takes all of us.

That’s the Libertarian approach.
That’s why I’m running.

Bill C-9 and it's vague sweeping regulations are a step back for free speech. It allows the government to ban symbols and create protest-free zones based purely on feelings.

Free Speech needs to be protected, not silenced.
