Happy Pride season to everyone celebrating 2SLGBTQQIA+ identities, lives, and communities! Celebrations are kicking off in the province this month and will carry on throughout the summer.

We recognize and affirm the sexual and gender diversity of New Brunswickers. We also uplift that the struggle for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and women’s equality cannot be separated. The Council stands with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in both celebration and solidarity.

Tuesday is Red Dress Day, a day of commemoration for Missing and Murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two Spirit people. This day is inspired by Métis artist Jaime Black, who created the REDress art installation of more than 600 red dresses as a visual reminder of Indigenous women and girls who have been murdered or are missing.

The Women of the Wabanaki Territories will be hosting a memory walk in Fredericton on Tuesday. Information can be found at:

On May 5th, Indigenous Women of the Wabanaki Territories (IWWT), in partnership with Under One Sky, multiple Government of New Brunswick departments, and the City of Fredericton, will host a Memory Walk for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP).

The government is going to share its 2026-2027 budget next week, on Tuesday, March 17th. Back in the fall, we gave government advice on how to create a budget that is equitable and drives equality forward in New Brunswick. We also explained why equity and equality must be priorities for the province as it navigates economic uncertainty and political volatility. You can read about that advice in our brief. https://bit.ly/4lsPbVp

Sunday is International Women’s Day! This day is an opportunity to celebrate gains, recognize ongoing efforts, and recommit ourselves to the collective work of advancing equality for all women.

This work spans from the interpersonal to the structural and systemic. At its best, it relentlessly centers the experiences and needs of the least privileged and protected among us. The aim is to increase equity now while working toward a just and liberated future.
