Residents Are Concerned. Want to Help? Keep it Short, Keep it Safe!

We love seeing our community look its best, but keeping your lawn mowed isn't just about curb appeal. It’s an important step in keeping our neighbourhoods healthy and safe!

With the warm weather, tall grass becomes the perfect hiding spot for some unwanted guests. Here is why keeping your grass cut matters:

β€’ Tick Prevention: Ticks love tall grass and heavy brush. By keeping your lawn short, you reduce the humid, shady environments they thrive in, helping protect your family and pets from tick-borne illnesses like Lyme disease.

β€’ Vermin Control: High grass and overgrown weeds provide excellent cover and nesting grounds for rodents and other wildlife. Regular mowing eliminates their hiding spots and discourages them from setting up camp near your home.

β€’ Community Safety: Clear lines of sight along sidewalks and intersections keep our pedestrians and drivers safe.

Let’s work together to keep our properties tidy and safe for everyone. Thank you for doing your part! 🀝🏑 -mk.

Rising Tick Risks in New Brunswick

New Brunswick is experiencing a significant rise in tick populations.

Ticks are parasites that feed on the blood of animals. By feeding on infected wildlife, they pick up bacteria and viruses, which they can then transmit to humans and pets. This increases your risk of Lyme disease and other illnesses.

Because immature ticks (nymphs) are only the size of a poppy seed, detection requires close inspection.

Please review and save these essential resources before heading outdoors:
πŸ‘‰ All You Need to Know About Ticks: https://ticktool.etick.ca/all-you-need-to-know-about-ticks/

πŸ‘‰ How to properly remove a tick without increasing infection risk: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/video/lyme-disease-properly-remove-tick.html?hq_e=el&hq_m=2186534&hq_l=2&hq_v=dbdbb2d4d8

If you are bitten: Do not wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your doctor or Pharmacist. Pharmacists are authorized to provide assessments for bites and prescribe preventative treatment free of charge. You can also upload a photo of the tick to eTick.ca for immediate identification support. -mk
