We have a passion for realizing ideas that inspire and engage the public, build community, and encourage conversation around issues that impact the people who live here. Friday, September 15, 2017 is PARK(ing) Day! Celebrated worldwide, this event encourages people to transform parking stalls into temporary parks, creative installations, interactive projects, workshops and more! This year, stalls
along Okisikow Way (101A Avenue), Whyte Avenue and Jasper Avenue have been proposed for transformation. They won’t last long, so submit your project idea now! Project submission deadline is August 31st (to receive approval by September 8th)
PARK(ing) Day 2017 is a collaboration with local artist Chelsea Boos for another opportunity to re-imagine the public realm and enhance the area for pedestrians. Last year, one of the stalls recognized Gloria Neapetung. A 2015 PARK(ing) day participant, Neapetung was the indigenous artist who designed the street sign for Okisikow Way (Angel Way), named in honour of all women who have experienced violence. We hope traditions and commemorations like this continue throughout the years, as it is important to remember Edmonton’s past in order to create an inclusive and meaningful future. Other parking stalls will showcase the city’s relationship with nature. We hope everyone brings a creative idea about what makes Edmonton unique! PARK(ing) Day started in San Fransisco over ten years ago and evolved into a worldwide event where citizens, designers, artists and activists transform metered parking spots into temporary public places! This year's PARK(ing) Day event is presented by
Chelsea Boos in partnership with CITYlab and many volunteers!
