On July 29, 2026, we announced the release of the 19 resolutions and one emergent resolution that members will vote on at the 2026 Alberta Municipalities’ (ABmunis) Convention. The resolutions process is a vital component of our annual convention because it is your municipality's opportunity to give us direction on which issues we invest our time and resources in advocating on your behalf.

Each resolution is brought forward by a member municipality that deems the issue to be important and seeks approval from the membership for ABmunis to act. Each elected official of a Regular Member municipality who is registered for Convention has the right to vote on each resolution.

As an elected official, you’re not the person approving permits or filling in potholes, but you’re the face of those and all the other services your municipality provides. So how do you ensure that what needs to get done, gets done? And how do you prioritize and strategize to determine what needs to be done?

EOEP's ‘Deliver with impact’ course is designed to equip elected officials with the knowledge and tools needed to make informed strategic decisions about the services their municipality provides.

Participants will explore council’s role in setting service levels, understanding different delivery models, and aligning funding decisions with community priorities and long-term sustainability. This course examines a range of service delivery approaches, helping councils assess options based on cost, risk and community impact.

This course is part of our pre-Convention courses that are held on Tuesday, September 22 in addition to our regular Convention programming. Courses can be added on to any Regular Member or RMA Member registration.

If you joined last year's 2025 Convention & Trade Show breakout session ‘The Municipal Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advantage’, you might already be aware of this: We developed an AI Adoption Toolkit to answer common questions about getting started, safe applications, and best practices for using AI in municipal operations.

The toolkit also includes examples, such as the Town of Drayton Valley's water treatment project, one of Canada's preeminent municipal infrastructure and AI projects. This project is garnering national attention for its benefits (including cost reductions ranging from 10% energy savings to 75% reductions in chemical costs) and is also being recognized for its approach to innovating existing water treatment infrastructures.

One of the toughest tasks for an elected official is balancing representing your constituents on everyday issues and planning the long-term goals and priorities of your municipality. Getting this right is the core of leadership.

EOEP's ‘Plan with purpose’ course will equip elected officials with the tools and knowledge to lead effectively by separating day-to-day operations from big-picture planning. Participants will learn the critical role of strategic planning in ensuring the long-term success and resilience of their municipality.

This interactive course is part of our pre-Convention courses that are held on Tuesday, September 22 in addition to our regular Convention programming. Courses can be added on to any Regular Member or RMA Member registration.
