Rep. Martin secures funding for economic development organization in Northern Aroostook County
AUGUSTA- Rep. Roland “Danny” Martin, D-Sinclair, announced Thursday that he has secured funding to support the Core Leadership Team of Acadia of the Lands and Forests (CLT- ALF), also known as Acadie des Terres et Forêts.
The funding, which Martin originally proposed through legislation, has been approved by the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD). ALF will receive a one-time grant to support their work over the next two years.
“This is an exciting time for northern Aroostook County, and specifically the St. John Valley,” stated Martin. “ALF provides leadership for our region and brings together both Canadian and American partners to ensure that communities on both sides of the St. John River will have a prosperous future. This funding will further support ALF as it carries out its mission.”
“As a lifelong resident of the St. John River Valley, I know there is so much untapped economic potential in this region of these state,” said Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash. “This funding represents a significant investment in our people, our community and our economic success”.
The Core Leadership Team of the Acadia of the Lands and Forests is a unique think tank focused on the region’s economic issues. Their mandate is to facilitate regional cooperation through the mobilization of key players. This includes stakeholders from the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec, as well as stakeholders from Maine’s northern Aroostook County.
Martin is chair of the Legislature’s State and Local Government Committee and is serving his third consecutive term in the Maine House. He represents the communities of Frenchville, Grand Isle, Madawaska, St. Agatha and Van Buren, as well as Cross Lake Township, Madawaska Lake Township, Sinclair Township and the unorganized territory of Square Lake.
